Most programs are open to school age children 5 years and older but there are some specifically for younger kids. Educational & Creative Fun autumn school holiday

Adelaide Planetarium

Calling all star-gazers and junior astronauts, go and take a tour of the solar system these school holidays!

Venture to the Adelaide Planetarium, a theatre with a domed-shaped ceiling and a star projector to realistically show the position of constellations, stars and planets. You can almost feel the earth turn as the projector rotates to simulate the motion of the earth’s rotation during the course of the night. One of the Planetarium’s experienced educators will guide you through the solar system before you experience one of our full dome movies. Little Picassos

AUTUMN SCHOOL HOLIDAY ART WORKSHOPS
Join Little Picassos this Autumn break for a selection of wonderful holiday classes in a studio setting that provides an inspirational and motivational art space for children.

Little Picassos Art programs have something for everyone – classes with accompanying adults from 2 years, Drop and Go sessions from 4.5 years for 1, 2 or 3 hours, half and full day experiences in a variety of mediums including: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, clay, textiles and construction.
If you choose more than one session in a day your child is fully supervised over the breaks.

Migration Museum

Revolting Girls and Rotting Boys

This one-hour activity will explore the lives of a few of the ‘revolting girls’ who passed through the Destitute Asylum in the mid-1800s and the ‘rotting boys’ who lived on the Hulk Fitzjames between 1880- 1891. Walk in, dress up, line up, and fess up to your crimes. Have fun working through the choices that you made and your eventual destination. Working through five different stations, explore what life was like for these children. Wednesday 19 April 2017 | 11.00am  Bookings essential – $5 per child | Suitable for 8 -12 year olds

The Game of Life

You are in Adelaide in the 1800s, where your luck is made by the roll of the dice. Your clothing may not be suitable for your age or the season, it might feel hot and scratchy – you have to make do with what you have! These suggestions are just a start – use the dress-ups, props and your imagination to enter the world of the past. Daily 10am – 4pm | Free | No bookings required | Suitable for all ages. Both activities will run Tuesday 18 to Friday 28 April 2017 excluding Anzac Day.

National Motor Museum

GooRoo Animation Claymation at the National Motor Museum. Have you ever wondered how animators bring blobs of plasticine to life? Through a fun, hands-on workshop at the National Motor Museum, your child can explore the creative world of claymation and from their fingertips, stories will unfold. For two days only, renowned local animation wizzes GooRoo Animation will be running claymation workshops at the National Motor Museum inspired by the new exhibition, Bush Mechanics. Children will be able to make their own animation starting with little more than a few balls of plasticine. They will learn how to sculpt their own characters, record and edit their creations, and will take home their very own stop-motion animation.

The new exhibition, Bush Mechanics, at the National Motor Museum is set in Central Australia, where local Aboriginal community members keep their cars running using old spares or whatever can be found in the bush and a whole lot of ingenuity. This fun, interactive exhibition will be open from 12 April to 7 July, before embarking on a national tour.

South Australian Maritime Museum

Calling all explorers, scientists and artists! Set sail on your own voyage of discovery.
Take the explorers trail and discover if you have what it takes to join Matthew Flinders’ or Nicolas Baudin’s voyages in 1801. Select a scientific specimen to paint and take home; you will need to identify the specimen and include the scientific name. Younger explorers can create their artwork and make a badge.
Explore, paint, create, take a Port River cruise and climb the lighthouse!
