This year’s Daffodil Day theme is “For Someone I Know” – by showing support for someone you know, you can help beat cancer and create a better, cancer-free future for all.
This Daffodil Day, Friday 25 August 2017, Cancer Council SA is asking all South Australians to purchase a daffodil for someone they know affected by cancer.
1 in 2 Australian men and 1 in 3 Australian women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This year alone it is estimated that over 9,700 South Australians will be diagnosed with cancer, 3,500 of which will die from the disease.
Cancer Council SA Chief Executive Lincoln Size said that Daffodil Day is a chance for all South Australians to help support those impacted by cancer.
“Sadly, all of us know someone who has experienced the devastating impacts of cancer firsthand. Through Daffodil Day South Australians are able to publicly show their commitment to a cancer free future and support those currently battling the disease. The money raised through Daffodil Day will fund Cancer Council SA’s vital research, support services and our public education and prevention campaigns.”
Cancer Council SA conducts and funds world-class research, implements prevention and advocacy campaigns, and provides information and support to those affected by cancer.
As one of the largest national fundraising events in the Southern Hemisphere, this year Cancer Council SA hopes to raise more than $450,000 locally and $5.5 million nationally on Daffodil Day.
