Adelaide Set to Stage International Yoga Day Festival

This weekend, yogis all over the globe will come together for the United Nations International Day of Yoga. Adelaide will be joining the festivities with their Yoga Day Festival.

Over 700 keen yogis are set to show their unity for yoga on Sunday June 18 at Wellington Square, North Adelaide, which will make for Adelaide’s largest free yoga event.

The free community event will feature flowing yoga asana classes, meditation, deep relaxation, yoga breathing, as well live music and free spirited dance, known to yogis as kirtan.

Yoga Day Festival is open to everyone regardless of whether they are a seasoned practitioner or brand new to the practice. This is a chance for South Australians to get firsthand experience of the world’s fastest growing wellness modality.

Yoga is most well known in the West as an exercise system, but Yoga goes far deeper as Gopala dasi from Australian School of Meditation & Yoga describes:

The ancient yogis understood yoga as a complete lifestyle and world view that promotes peace in the individual, peace in communities and peace in the world.

It is estimated that close to 270,000 Australians practice yoga of some form. United Nations International Day of Yoga is an opportunity for individuals from all backgrounds to learn more about the ancient system of yoga and enjoy the free festivities being offered with friends, family and the community.
