It’s not as easy (or safe) for kids to just jump on their bikes and ride off down the street anymore like we did as kids (back in the old… days!) If you have a child who loves to ride their bike and is quite a confident rider – even if still using training wheels – then they’ll love Kurrangga Park BMX Track.
Suitable for a range of bikes – be it a BMX or not – this park is situated on the edge of Adelaide’s CBD amongst the city parklands. A fantastic park for an outing with family and friends, or to just get out, be active and maybe get a little dirty!
There are a selection of different tracks here to suit all skill levels – from beginners to advanced. You’ll find kids – both BIG and small – with the latest gear, full helmets and very cool bikes amongst talented toddlers on their first bike, still using training wheels, but happy to hit the hills with gusto! I would highly stress from experience though that this park can get pretty busy and riders don’t always look out for the ‘little ones’, so be cautious even on the beginner track.
The kids can have races along the tracks and mini hills, or really test out their skills on the bigger slopes of the intermediate track. The dirt ramps you can see on the advanced track are purely for older, very experienced riders who take their sport seriously. Perfect for picnics, there are BBQ facilities, tables and benches as well as plenty of shade. During the warmer months bring an esky with cold drinks as it gets pretty hot and dusty.
So if you’re looking for a place for the kids to really burn off some energy, this is it! The only time it’s really not suitable is when it’s just too hot or too wet. Being in the parklands there’s also plenty of space to bring a footy or bat and ball for a change of pace during the day. You could easily hold a birthday party here and have guests bring their own bikes and helmets.
