The St Kilda playground has been going through a huge redevelopment over the past year. Here is an update from the City of Salisbury’s Facebook Page on 12 March 2015:

Come down to St Kilda Playground and check out our new 25-metre bouncy boomerang!

The completion of the boomerang marks the end of Stage 1A of the $3.5 million St Kilda Playground Renewal Project, which also features:

• A new basketball court
• New swings and soft-fall sands
• Improved landscaping such as garden beds and turf
• A drinking fountain to quench your thirst on hot summer days and
• New electric barbecues and park furniture

Stage 1B will be underway before the end of the month featuring upgrades to Volcano attraction including new lava slides, bridges and stairs. The Volcano will be closed during works, but the rest of the playground will remain open. This stage is expected to be complete by mid-2015.

Full details of the Renewal can be found at the City of Salisbury website here.

Important note if you are visiting: Mosquitoes are quite prevalent along the coastal environments including areas around St Kilda at the moment. So please cover up or use repellent if needed.

For general info about the St Kilda Playground before the redevelopment took place you can read our Review here – we will be sure to post a new Review with the new equipment soon.

It’s a public playground which is not fenced so is always open 🙂

The idea of the sand floors under the swings is a terrible idea. You can’t have as much fun on the swings as your feet sink into the sand making it a lot less enjoyable. Also the sand gets into shoes. If you could fix that or even get rid of it it’ll bd good.

I completely disagree with Amy. The sand under the swings is a great idea! What do you mean you can’t have fun on the swings because your feet sink? It’s SWINGS, your feet are supposed to be in the AIR 🙂 I love the sand as it makes it so much safer. Tell me which kid has never tried to jump off the swing as its swinging – they all do. The sand cushions the impact when they land and reduces the risk of breaking bones. Great choice Playford council. 🙂
