It’s not your usual Maccas

See what’s special about McDonald’s Green Fields in our review (Jan 2017)

The brand new McDonald’s Green Fields (opposite Mawson Lakes) has just opened in December 2016 and it’s not your usual Maccas. It’s all grown up, with a modern and fresh new look. A little bit upmarket Nordic and a little bit fancy around the edges, with great natural light and soft lighting options.

This section near the McCafe area is very plush and you could be forgiven for thinking you were in an upmarket hotel cafe. It’s for those who may like to enjoy their coffee or meal in peace, away from the bustle of the playground area.

There are plenty of different seating options to suit different groups of people. I can imagine groups of young people enjoying sitting at these high tables with stools as well as anyone going in for a quick meal. There are booths for those who want a more intimate experience.

For families, the piece de resistance is the amazing indoor playground. It’s one of the new McDonald’s PlayPlace playgrounds that are being rolled out. It’s fully enclosed inside but with glass all around it so you can keep an eye on the kids.

There are six levels of fun for kids to climb, slide and explore and it’s suitable for kids 3 to 12 years old.

Parents may also enter, although each level is not high so be prepared for a lot of squeezing and crawling if you need to retrieve your child from up high.

There’s plenty to keep the kids busy for a while. Plus, as it’s fully indoors, it’s air-conditioned and heated, as well as protected from rain, so suitable no matter what the weather.

Inside the cubes there are these steps below to help kids climb up to each level. See what we mean about being squeezy for adults?

Be prepared for your child to say “Mummy, Mummy, look at me,” from up high, about a million times. You know it.

Adjacent the playground is the party room. It’s connected by this little yellow door – the perfect size for little people. There’s a hand sanitiser dispenser here at just the right height for kids too. Great idea for kids to use before eating. There’s also a highchair too.

Plenty of tables in the yellow party room and along the glass wall allow you to sit and watch while the kids play. Perfect for a catch up with friends; for a meal or just a coffee. There’s free wi-fi at McDonald’s too in case you want to do some work while the kids play. It’s basically a free indoor play cafe.

Everything else – the food, service and cleanliness is pretty much the same as any other McDonald’s – don’t get confused and expect fine dining service to go with the fancy surroundings. The design of this new family restaurant has been well thought out and is sure to be popular with families in the area, and is even worth the drive for those a little bit further away.
