Santos Tour Down Under 2017
The Santos Tour Down Under is Australia’s premier international cycling race. It will be staged in and around Adelaide this year during our summer holidays from 14 to 22 January 2017.
With an event calendar full of race stages plus plenty of concerts, street parties and family fun make sure you get along to support the cyclists and soak up the atmosphere of the Tour Down Under.
Sun 15 Jan | Peoples’ Choice Classic
Start: 7:15pm Wakefield Rd, Adelaide
Finish: 8:15pm, Wakefield Rd, Adelaide
The People’s Choice Classic heralds the start of the Santos Tour Down Under and the Festival of Cycling. Held on the streets of Adelaide, the closed-circuit road race is a preview to the Santos Tour Down Under and sets the stage for the week ahead. Once again, the event will see the riders test their skills in the East End of Adelaide along Bartels Road, Dequetteville Terrace and Wakefield Road. *Start time subject to change due to live television broadcast.
Tues 17 Jan | Hostworks Stage 1
Start: 10:30am, Unley
Finish: 2:27pm Lyndoch
Unley will host the start of Hostworks Stage 1 of the Santos Tour Down Under. The metropolitan start is sure to set the tone for the day, as the riders head through the heart of the city of Adelaide and out to the Barossa, taking in scenic views of pastures and vineyards on their way to the finish arch in Lyndoch.

Wed 18 Jan | Staging Connections Stage 2
Start: 10:45, Stirling
Finish: 2:29pm, Paracombe
The Adelaide Hills town of Stirling is the setting for the start of Staging Connections Stage 2 of the Santos Tour Down Under. The peloton will sweep through Stirling five times before setting off through the Adelaide Hills. A sharp descent on Norton Summit and the KOM climb up Torrens Hill Road are sure to split the group and provide a thrilling finish into Paracombe.

Thurs 19 Jan | Stage 3 Hahnsgrohe
Start: 11am, Glenelg
Finish: 2:51pm ETA, Victor Harbor
The beachside suburb of Glenelg is in the spotlight for this varied stage which will see the peloton travel through the Fleurieu Peninsula and the McLaren Vale wine region. The riders will take on Sellicks Hill for the Subaru King of the Mountain points before the finishing circuit around Victor Harbor.

Fri 20 Jan | Bupa Stage 4
Start: 11:30am, Norwood
Finish: 3:30pm, Campbelltown
Cycling enthusiasts will put their skills to the test from Norwood to Campbelltown on the Bupa Challenge Tour just hours before the professionals tackle the stage. Riders will take on Checker Hill for the Subaru King of the Mountain before looping around Birdwood, Springton and Mt Torrens before finishing in Campbelltown. Recreational cyclists and fans of all ages will cheer on the cyclists along Maryvale Road at the stage finish.

Start: 11:10am, main Road, McLaren Vale – near Tatachilla Road
Finish: 3:02pm ETC Willunga Hill
BikeExchange Stage 5 is a favourite for the spectators and heralded as the Queen Stage of the Santos Tour Down Under. The day starts in McLaren Vale, famous for its winemaking. The town is always in party mode during the race, with the peloton headed for the iconic Willunga Hill. Fans flock to the side of the road to cheer on their heroes in what is often the deciding stage of the Santos Tour Down Under.

Sun 22 Jan | Be Safe Be Seen MAC Stage 6
Start: 1:30pm, King William Street, Adelaide
Finish: 3:30pm ETA, King William Street, Adelaide
The final stage of the Santos Tour Down Under in 2017 will see the peloton race through the streets of Adelaide on this fast-paced 4.5km circuit. Touching the tip of the Tour Village and starting and finishing by Elder Park next to the banks of the River Torrens, there are plenty of great vantage points to catch the riders fly past. Make sure you are there roadside as the first winner for the 2017 UCI WorldTour season is crowned.

Tour Down Under Family Friendly Events
There is so much for families to do and see during the Santos Tour Down Under. Here are a few highlights and suggestions to make sure you don’t miss out on the action!
Saturday 14 January 2017 | Team Presentations and Free Concert – Victoria Square
6:30pm – 8:30pm
Get the best seat in the Adelaide City Council Tour Village and meet the stars of the peloton as they are presented for the first time to the public in 2017. Once you have been introduced to the teams, stay on for the free concert to kick off the festival’s celebrations in style.
Sunday 15 January 2017 | BUPA Family Ride – East End Adelaide

The Bupa family ride is your family’s opportunity to ride together on a UCI WorldTour track, just like the world’s cycling superstars.
Sunday 15 January 2017 | Family Day – People’s Classic in Rymill Park
2:30pm – 8:00pm
Family Day will be on the first and final Sundays of the Santos Tour Down Under, during the People’s Choice Classic and Be Safe Be Seen MAC Stage 6.
Monday 16 January 2017 | Unley Gourmet Gala
4pm – 10pm
One of Adelaide’s most prestigious events and held the night before Hostworks Stage 1 of the Santos Tour Down Under, the Unley Gourmet Gala is an exciting outdoor gourmet experience showcasing some of South Australia’s finest food, wine, fashion, music and entertainment. Highlights of the 2017 Unley Gourmet Gala include fashion stage parades promoting the best of King William Road’s boutiques, gourmet food and wine stalls, cooking demonstrations, live music, DJs, roving performers and lots more. This free family-friendly event will feature cooking demonstrations by ‘The Internet Chef’ Bridget Davis and fun children’s activities in the Boffa Street Kids’ Zone, including bike-themed face painting, a silent disco and craft activities.
Tuesday 17 January 2017 | Tourrific Prospect Street Party

One of Adelaide’s most enduring, entertaining and family-friendly events, Tourrific Prospect is a celebration showcasing the best of the City of Prospect’s vibrant life. In a one-of-a-kind, free fiesta of music, dance, food and entertainment, the main road is set to be jam-packed with celebrations of the community’s creative and cultural diversity. Featuring local businesses, shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as the ever-popular Loopy Kids Ride and Kid Zone, the Smart City Expo, and more.
Wednesday 18 January 2017 | Glenelg Tour Street Party

Catch the tram to the bay with friends and family for an evening of beachside fun, food, fashion and live entertainment.
Thursday 19 January 2017 | Norwood on Tour Street Party – cancelled

Take your friends and family and be a part of the electrifying atmosphere the Parade has to offer at the Norwood on Tour Street Party.
Friday 20 January 2017 | Gear Up @ Campbelltown Norwood on Tour Street Party
9:30am – 4:00pm
A day with free rides, water play, roving entertainment, a variety of food and market stalls right on the finish line. Join in to welcome for the first time to Campbelltown, the Bupa Challenge Tour riders while getting ready to cheer on the professional peloton. A great day of family activities at the Santos Tour Down Under Bupa Stage 4 finish.
Sunday 22 January 2017 | Family Day in Rymill Park

This FREE event has previously hosted activities including Bubble Man, face painters, bike art, gaming trucks, stunt bike riders, pump tracks, airbrush tattoos, jumping castles and more!
Sunday 22 January 2017 | BUPA Mini Tour for Kids
9:30am – 11:30am
Participants aged from six – 12 can ride along the start/finish straight of the Be Safe Be Seen MAC Stage 6 street circuit just a few hours before the world’s elite cyclists race the final stage of the Santos Tour Down Under.
