Adelaide School Holiday Ideas July

Adelaide July School Holiday Guide – Winter 2020

Your guide to all the best activities & ideas in Adelaide for the July School Holidays.

South Australian Winter School Holidays: Saturday 4 July – Sunday 19 July 2020

To make it easier for you to find things for the kids to do during the school holidays, the Play & Go team have put together our Holiday Guide featuring some of the most popular, and some not-so-well-known activities on offer.

As we all know, this year has seen a lot of restrictions placed on events and venues, so please check the booking requirements carefully and book in early to avoid missing out.

**Please note that Play Centres are permitted to open on Monday 29 June in line with SA Government easing of restrictions. Please check individual venues for reopening date when booking.**

Adelaide Gaol

A Woolly Family Adventure – Rug up these school holidays and head to Adelaide Gaol for an adventure for the whole family!

In January 1880 the three Raichel children and their mother were arrested for stealing a sheep. Follow the riddling rhymes around the Gaol to crack the code, and find out how long the Raichel family served at the Adelaide Gaol. You won’t believe how long they had to spend inside!

Adelaide Gaol is open every day of the school holidays from 10am-4pm, with last entry at 3pm. While this activity is suitable for primary school aged children, please note the trail includes the hanging tower. We recommend allowing at least an hour to complete this activity. Walking shoes, warm jackets, and an umbrella are recommended.

This activity is free with entry, and we encourage you to book your tickets online in advance to ensure staff are able to manage capacity in relation to social distancing guidelines. This will also reduce the waiting time when you arrive and allow staff to provide details for contact tracing if requested by SA Health.

Adelaide Zoo & Monarto Safari Park

Go wild at Adelaide Zoo these school holidays!

Adelaide Zoo reopened to the public on Monday 22 June 2020 so you can once again let your little ones go wild on an animal adventure.

Check the daily program on arrival and be sure to take in some of the daily Keeper Presentations. Young children love to get up close and hand feed the friendly animals in the Variety Children’s Zoo, just a hop, skip and jump from the Nature’s Playground and Wisteria Café.

But remember, due to COVID-19 restrictions, a date-specific ticket or reservation will be required for all visitors. Tickets are now available to purchase so you can book your entry ticket online for your chosen date.  Zoo Members also must reserve their tickets online before visiting.

So bring your little animals to meet theirs these school holidays.  Follow the Zoo’s Facebook page for all the updates.

July School Holiday Guide

South Australian Museum

Have a howling good time at a fur-tastic exhibition at the South Australian Museum.

Dogs have been a much-loved part of our lives since we began to domesticate them more than 10,000 years ago, but how much do we actually know about our four-legged friends?

Discover the full ‘dog’s tale’ as the exhibition digs into the origins of dogs as wild wolves, what happened over thousands of years to make them so special to us, why they behave the way they do and what part we must play in keeping our magical mateship with them strong.

Kids will enjoy exploring an activity trail, finding fun facts, crawling through the doggy door and playing in the dog kennel.

Extended to 2 August 2020 due to pup-ular demand.
