Adelaide Steampunk Festival at the National Railway Museum
Step back in time to a world of steam-powered wonders and clockwork enchantments and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s visit to Adelaide at the 2020 Adelaide Steampunk Festival.
In simple terms, steampunk is a genre of science fiction that has a historical setting which typically features steam powered machinery rather than advanced technology, but in reality, it has grown to be much more than this.
Steampunk as a genre is most commonly set in an alternate and sometimes dystopian version of the 19th century British Victorian era or American ‘wild west’ where steam powered devices have been retained in normal usage.
Retro Futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them feature heavily in this genre, as do the era’s perspectives on fashion, art, architecture and culture.
