Australian Barefoot Waterski Championships | Adelaide | 9-15 Apr 2018

Barefoot SA is hosting the 2018 Australian Barefoot Waterski Nationals in the heart of Adelaide on the River Torrens

Like many sporting clubs, each year several State Barefoot clubs meet together in one location to conduct a series of events (tricks, slalom and jumps) to determine national champions and a ranking of skiers according to their ability.

Each state takes a turn at hosting the national event. This year, Barefoot SA will be hosting the nationals, an honour not held since 2006 in Renmark, bringing this spectacular sport right to the heart of the CBD; a brilliant way to shine light on our beautiful city, and bring hundreds of event goers and supporters to the city for accommodation, leisure activities, meals and more.

Waterskiing has not been held on the River Torrens since the 1960’s, and record numbers of registered skiers (100 plus) have been received due to the prime location of this anticipated event.  As Barefoot SA and other participating states gear up for media coverage of this event, the number of spectators is expected to be huge.

This event is free for spectators to attend, however a gold coin donation is welcome.

Adelaide Riverbank planned activities include:

  • catering options for families
  • entertainment
  • boat displays
  • licensed bar facilities
  • a ‘live night jump’ under lights by some of Australia’s and the world’s best skiers
  • live band on Friday night & Saturday
