Bastille Day at the Adelaide Central Market

Bienvenue à La Fête Nationale au Marché!

A celebration of French culture over two days on Friday 14 July and Saturday 15 July, the Adelaide Central Market Bastille Day celebrations return in recognition of France’s national day. Highlights include live music by Market favourites – Louise Blackwell and the French Set, Adelaide String Duo, Pamplemousse, Mélange à Trois – along with a pop-up crepe bar, croquembouche cooking demonstration by Le Cordon Bleu, French Market tour, Monet-inspired Paint ‘n’ Sip class and a pop-up Champagne bar by the French Wine Centre.

There will be plenty for kids and families to do with the Market’s July school holiday program in full swing, including the Market Trail, and free activities including cupcake decorating, face painting and roving entertainment.

Artisan French trader Les Deux Coqs, who recently celebrated their five-year anniversary in the Market will have new products on offer for the celebration, along with their regular range of authentic handmade French fare. Cheese and bakery collective – Dough, Say Cheese and The Smelly Cheese Co – are gearing up for a busy two days with a range of limited-edition Bastille Day products, French cheese tastings, their famous Raclette, Tartiflette and of course their daily range of French-inspired pastries.

  • 9:30am – 12pm – Free cupcake decorating for kids
  • 10am – 12pm – Marie Lanternette (roving entertainment)
  • 11:30am – 1pm – Live music with Louise Blackwell & The French Set
  • 11:30am – 1:30pm – Live music with Sounds Continental
  • 5pm – 7pm – Live music with Melange A Trois
  • 6pm – 7pm – Free Macarons cooking demonstration with Le Cordon Bleu
  • 6pm – 8pm – Live music with Pamplemousse

Saturday 15 July 2023

  • 9:30am – 12pm – Free face painting
  • 9am – 11am – Live music with Adelaide Strings Duo
  • 10am – 11am – Free Flaming Camembert cooking demonstration with Valerie Henbest of the Smelly Cheese Co.
  • 11am – 1pm – Live music with Melange A Trois
  • 11am – 1pm – Live music with Louise Blackwell & The French Set
  • 11am – 1pm – Live music with Sounds Continental
  • 6pm – 9am – Cheese After Dark with the Smelly Cheese Co. (sold out)

Ticketed Events:

Le tour du Marché : The French Market Tour

$25 including glass of French champagne (plus booking fee, bookings essential)

A walking tour of the Market with French speaking tour guide and Fringe performer Arnaud Bénassy. You’ll learn a bit of Française, learn how to sing La Marseillaise, discover interesting facts about Bastille Day and taste some of the Market’s most authentic French fromage, charcuterie and patisserie. Starting with a délicieux glass of champagne from the French Wine Centre’s pop-up ‘Impromptu’ this fun tour will take you for a chat and tastings at French institutions the Smelly Cheese Co. and Les Deux Coqs.

  • Friday 14 July 2023: 4:30pm – 5:30pm, 6pm – 7pm and 7:30pm – 8:30pm
  • Saturday 15 July 2023: 9:30am – 10:30am and 11am – 12pm

Monet inspired Paint ‘n’ Sip class

Enjoy a délicieux glass of French champagne by the French Wine Centre as you immerse yourself in an unforgettable art experience. This paint ‘n’ sip class offers the opportunity to explore your creativity and unleash your inner artist. Create your own inspired Monet masterpiece, quality canvas and acrylic paints, as our teachers step you through traditional techniques, paint application, blending and pattern.

The ticket price includes glass of French champagne.

Cheese After Dark by the Smelly Cheese Co. (SOLD OUT)
