Bridgestone World Solar Challenge | Adelaide Finish Line | 11-15 Oct 2017

In 2017, the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge will celebrate its 30th Anniversary.

Join the crowds in Victoria Square / Tarntanyangga and be part of the celebrations as the teams complete their 3,000km journey from Darwin at the official City of Adelaide finish line, marking a successful end to years of planning, designing, building and event preparations.

Visit the village and be inspired by the future of solar and renewable energy technology. Free kids science activities from Questacon, Imagination Playground and more!

Check out CAROclub by Tim and Kyle from My Kitchen Rules. They’ve teamed up with their best mate and head chef Kain (formerly Bread & Bone, Street and NOMA) to bring you this exciting food venture. Caro, the Latin word for meat, inspired the name and menu, which features meat focused dishes with influences from North, Central and South America and Asia. Grab a bite to eat Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Chill out with their resident DJ, Saturday and Sunday between 10.30am – 6pm or grab a coffee at the Bridgestone Marquee and relax in their recycled lounge area.

Wander through the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge historical display and get up close to The Quiet Achiever, the world’s first practical long-distance solar-powered car powered entirely by photovoltaic solar cells driven by Event Pioneer Hans Tholstrup across Australia in 1982.

Kids Activities

Super Solar Science! Presented by Adelaide City Libraries  |  Friday 13 October

Bring the kids down to build a solar robot that will show them the benefits of solar energy and how solar power is used to drive a small motor. They will build a robot toy that is fun to play with, no batteries required.  Suitable for kids 7 and up.

Kids will also be able to make their own artwork using the power of the sun.  Grab your favourite green foliage, flowers or any everyday object and place them on the special sunprint paper. After a few minutes in the sun, the natural form leaves a print on the blue paper creating a lovely little artwork.

Questacon: Fascinating Science and Science on the move  |  Thursday 12 – Sunday 15 October

Questacon’s travelling exhibition ‘Fascinating Science’ covers everyday scientific principles and problem solving puzzles.  Ideal for kids 8 to 14 years, but can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

With plenty of exhibits and interactive experiences will entertain and engage on topics of logic, balance, fluids, illusions and mathematical puzzles. Unlink some loops, play music on milk bottles, build a pyramid puzzle, make a pencil appear then disappear or get rhythm on the brain!

Enjoy, discover and explore principles of light, music and sound, human biology and health, force and motion, ecology and the environment, electricity and magnetism, human population and genetics. Science on the Move’s intriguing exhibit investigations will engage your mind and body. Turn yourself into a battery, crank up a tornado in a bottle, escape from handcuffs, predict the outcome of chaos, build a food chain, measure your fitness and much, much more.

Judging of the Cruiser Class Cars  |  Saturday 14 October, 2pm

Cruiser Class vehicles are designed with the future of renewable energy in mind; they have four wheels and at least two forward facing seats. Once they arrive at the finish line, they are again put to the test by an international judging panel, who will present the final honours.

Street Parade  |  Sunday 15 October, 3pm

This is your chance to get a look at the solar cars in action as they depart Victoria Square and drive through the Adelaide CBD to celebrate the end of another Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Route map will be available shortly.
