Everyone’s favourite fairytale – with a twist.
Alexei Ratmansky, formerly artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet and now resident choreographer of American Ballet Theatre, has created a new version of Cinderella for The Australian Ballet. Set to Prokofiev’s beguiling score and featuring Surrealism-inspired sets and costumes by French designer Jérôme Kaplan, this new Cinderella is a fantasy land of 1940’s glam – with some surprises in store!
Ratmansky has been hailed as the saviour of traditional ballet, injecting fresh life into classical technique. His treatment of the original girl-made-good story is filled with his characteristic wit and flair. Following 2013’s Swan Lake, Cinderella promises to be another sell-out for The Australian Ballet.
“The world’s most influential ballet-maker…” The Guardian UK on Alexei Ratmansky, 2012
