2018 Credit Union Christmas Pageant ‘Design a Mini-Float’ competition
South Australian school children are invited to be creative and participate in the 2018 Credit Union Christmas Pageant ‘Design a Mini-Float’ competition.
Children aged between 5 and 16 are being encouraged to design their own mini-float with the winning design to be built at Stardust Castle and showcased in the Credit Union Christmas Pageant on Saturday, 10 November 2018.
First introduced in 2007, the Design a Mini-Float Competition calls upon students to enter a world of fun and fantasy with a Christmas theme. Since 2007 the competition has had thousands of designs submitted. Minister for Tourism, Trade and Investment, Hon David Ridgway said the competition was an exciting opportunity for South Australian children to become involved in the event and demonstrate their creativity as part of the process.
“The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is an iconic community event that South Australians have grown up with, it’s exciting that our kids have the opportunity to contribute to the event in such a meaningful way,” Mr Ridgway said.
A mini float is a small mobile set that is light enough to be pushed or pulled along the Pageant route. In 2017 the winning design was selected from more than 250 entries. Para Vista Primary School winner, Sophia Ivanica, was bursting with pride to see her ‘Snowman’ viewed by the 330,000 spectators who lined the streets of Adelaide.
Brian Gilbertson, Creative Director, Credit Union Christmas Pageant advises that the entries will be judged on criteria including originality, artistic content, and design.
“Students should draw inspiration from fantasy, fairy tales and Christmas magic when designing their minifloat” Mr Gilbertson said.
Robert Keogh, Chair, Credit Union Pageant Company said the winning student or class will have their design constructed and be awarded exciting prizes and experiences for their school.
“The winner will have the opportunity to see their mini-float being built by the elves during a behind-thescenes visit to Stardust Castle (the Pageant workshop),” Mr Keogh said.
With thanks to the four sponsoring Credit Unions, a prize of $500 for the winner will be awarded and winning entrants can enjoy a reserved space for their family, friends or class mates on the Blue Honour Line to see their mini-float debut on Pageant day.
