To make it easier for you to find things for the kids to do during the school holidays, the Play & Go team have put together our Spring Holiday Guide featuring some of the most popular, and some not-so-well-known activities on offer.

As we all know, this year has seen a lot of restrictions placed on events and venues, so please check the booking requirements carefully and book in early to avoid missing out.

Adelaide Aquatic Centre

With the weather warming up, Adelaide Aquatic Centre is the perfect place to cool down these school holidays.

Open 7 days a week, your little one can enjoy the play spaces, fountains, and shallow water of the family leisure pool, while the older kids take the plunge in the lap and dive pools. It’s heated and undercover, so it’s perfect no matter what the weather is like.

Plus, they’ll stay fit, healthy, and active all holiday – while having lots of fun.

Located in the Adelaide Park Lands, just a few minutes north of the city,  the Adelaide Aquatic Centre is a great place for families to visit.




91-Storey Treehouse – Adelaide Festival Centre

Join Andy and Terry in the Treehouse and share the fun with your family LIVE on stage these school holidays!

Andy and Terry’s Treehouse has reached an amazing 91 Stories! It’s now more fantastically dangerous than ever, with a deserted desert island, a whirlpool, and a giant spider! But Andy, Terry and Jill have no idea they’re about to face their biggest challenge yet! Mr Big Nose has sent his grandchildren to the Treehouse, and they don’t want to just sit quietly.

Adelaide Gaol Escape Trail

Are you smarter than the Adelaide Gaol guards?

These school holidays you can help the naughty prisoners solve the puzzle and escape the walls – just like the real-life stories of backflipping circus performers and crafty painters making their own guard uniforms who all thought their ideas would lead to freedom.

Wind your way through one of Adelaide’s oldest buildings in this hide-and-seek game steeped in history.

This word-scramble escape trail has been designed for 5-12 year olds, although younger children might require assistance. We recommend allowing up to an hour to complete the trail. Bookings are not required and this activity is free with entry.



Adelaide Zoo & Monarto Safari Park

Nature Craft – get outdoors and get crafty at Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park.

Your little ones will have a wild time exploring the animals on their Nature Crafts adventure trail, collecting items as they go to build their own Wild Animals.  Submit a photo of your little ones creation for the chance to win a ‘Your Wild Books Play Pack’.

Plus, get some great tips from SA Water on keeping your house and garden cool and learn how recycled water is used to create green public spaces around Adelaide.

Base Camp 

See if you’ve got what it takes to be Australia’s next Ninja Warrior.

With 3 Ninja courses designed to test kids from 4yrs and up, they are bound to have a great time testing their ninja skills with loads of obstacles to climb, swing and jump through.

Open 7 Days a week during the school holidays | Monday-Friday | 10am – 6:30pm & Saturday/Sunday | 10am-4:30pm.

Sessions are only $16.90 for a 90minute session.

Bay City Rolling

Bay City Rolling is a new event debuting in Glenelg for the October school holidays.

Strap on your skates and roll under an opened marquee with views of the beach. A great affordable family experience for all ages and three weekends of roller-disco fun.

The roller skating rink is 460m2 and it is located in a 900m2 undercover but open marquee, to let the sea breeze drift through.
There will be a maximum number of 150 skaters per session to ensure there’s lots of space to physically distance.

Embark on an adventure along Adelaide’s awesome trails. Go at your own pace and follow a trail through the city to discover hidden street art, the city’s most underrated food, secret gardens and historic buildings.

Take your pick from the City of Adelaide’s massive collection of free self-guided trails including walking trails, food and drink trails, nature trails, cycling trails and more.

Swim with wild dolphins or just watch

Dolphins are one of the Earth’s most fascinating and curious creatures and Temptation offers you this amazing opportunity to encounter Adelaide’s dolphins in the wild, something that you will remember forever.

You can sit at the front of Temptation and enjoy the 360-degree view or walk around the boat watching the dolphins play only a few feet away from you and your camera. For the more adventurous, don a wetsuit and get into the water with them, the recently launched ‘Front Swim Experience’ is an experience you don’t want to miss, with wild dolphins within arm’s length, playing and frolicking on the bow of Temptation.

Dolphin Sanctuary Kayak Tours

The Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary is the hub of marine adventure.

Take a guided tour through some of SA’s most beautiful waters, enabling you to get up close and personal with one of the oceans most playful and friendly creatures.

In the marine park, visitors have the opportunity to kayak amongst more than 30 Bottlenose dolphins, and 300 other dolphin visitors that consistently come and go. You can watch them peacefully socialise, feed, play and nurse their young in their very own environment for an immersive and educational experience.

Migration Museum

These school holidays at the Migration Museum you will be able to visit the British Migrants exhibition before it finishes in November.

Developed by Museums Victoria, British Migrants features stories told by children, teenagers and families, amongst others – all brought to life through compelling digital animation.

This September you will also be able to check out the new exhibition, Expressing Ourselves: Being Deaf in South Australia. What is it like to be Deaf today? What was it like 50, 100 or 150 years ago? Learn about Auslan and the ways Deaf South Australians create and experience our unique culture. Join us as we share stories of deaf South Australians from the past, meet those living in the present, and look at where Deaf life is headed in the future.

Mount Lofty Adventure Hub

Mount Lofty Adventure Hub

The Mount Lofty Adventure Hub, based in the gorgeous forest lands of Woodhouse Activity Centre, is open for mid-week sessions as well as weekends this school holidays!

Their Rock Climbing, Abseiling and Zipline experience is a must try, including a 15-metre rock climbing wall and 324m forest zipline (SA’s longest!).

Looking for a group activity? You can book a special party or group day out and take advantage of the FULL RANGE of activities at the Adventure Hub. Why not get together and test yourselves on the High Ropes Challenge Course, dare to take the ‘Leap of Faith’ trapeze or experience the thrill of their 3-person 18 metre Mega Swing!

National Motor Museum

The National Motor Museum is a favourite for kids and parents alike, with a huge display of iconic vintage vehicles, interactive displays and gorgeous grounds for a picnic in the Springtime sun.

The museum’s famous annual event the Bay to Birdwood is on at the start of the holidays and for the first time ever will be live-streamed. The special 40th anniversary of the Bay to Birdwood will celebrate all decades of motoring history. Gather some friends to watch online on 27 September. You can also download an activity sheet from the Children’s University website for the little ones to watch, learn and engage.

South Australian Maritime Museum

Take a cardboard box, a paper hat, a whole lot of imagination, and you can be sailing the high seas, tackling mythical sea creatures as an explorer, a pirate or the captain of your own ship.

This is the kind of creative learning and fun that the iconic Australian TV show Play School has offered for more than fifty years. To celebrate, a landmark exhibition marking the program’s milestone 50th birthday is on display at the Maritime Museum in Port Adelaide. It’s the exhibition that brings all your childhood memories alive!

This nostalgic exhibition has been a favourite for families this year, and now has been extended through to January! Come and visit or re-visit Big Ted, Little Ted and Jemima and all your other favourites these school holidays.

South Australian Museum 

Go wild at the South Australian Museum these school holidays.

Take your family on a journey through the natural world with awe-inspiring images by professional, emerging and junior photographers, who have shown impeccable patience, artistry and technique to capture incredible moments in time.

This exhibition is one for all the family, and allows us to explore the beauty and wonder of the animals, plants and landscapes of our own backyard. These images provoke us to explore and understand the changing nature of our environment and appreciate the world that surrounds us.

TreeClimb Adelaide is Australia’s first inner-city aerial adventure park.

TreeClimb has 3 children’s courses with 21 tree-top activities ending in a zip-line to encourage them back to the ground. 

Every climber has a different ability and TreeClimb staff are trained to help kids navigate the course, build confidence and develop new skills, all while having a great adventure in the Adelaide CBD.
