Flaherty’s Beach on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula
Flaherty’s Beach is an absolutely stunning beach to visit on the Yorke Peninsula. With perfectly clear shallow water for miles, it’s perfect for families, especially if you have little ones.

You’ll find Flaherty’s Beach on the western side, at the top of the ‘foot’ of Yorke Peninsula, about 232km from Adelaide (about 2.5 hrs drive). It sits between Hardwicke Bay and Point Turton (just before Point Turton, not far from Warooka).

Turns out you don’t need to go to the Maldives, or on a boat trip in Thailand to a remote tropical island, to see postcard clear waters. This is right here in South Australia, in our own backyard. A bit of a hidden gem, you can see why this is a favourite for locals.
Flaherty’s is one of the few South Australian beaches where you can drive onto the beach, but it’s only suitable for 4WD vehicles (that’s real 4 wheel drives – not AWD or SUVs). If you do drive on the beach, please drive slowly and carefully – there are kids running onto the beach from the car park boardwalk.
Dogs are also allowed on the beach (as with most beaches on the Yorke Peninsula, except in the National Park). Please be mindful of other people if you do take your dog, and please clean up after them.
From the car park there is a boardwalk to the beach – it’s a short walk over a small dune of less than 100 metres, and then depending on whether the tide is high or low, there is sand stretching for ages.
There are many sand bars and the water is shallow for a long way, making it very safe and kid friendly. We think it would be very safe from sharks too – with the shallow water and sand bars – plus the water is so clear that you would see any creature clearly.
The calm shallow waters make it perfect to practise paddle boarding. Also we noticed a family near us having fun with their remote toy boat in the shallow pools of water, and a remote toy car on the sand.
Seriously, the last time we saw a beach with water this clear and beautiful we had to travel to a remote island in Thailand. The best thing is the water is clean here, and you don’t need to share the beach with boats full of tourists. If you are in the Yorke Peninsula this is a must visit destination. The photos don’t do it justice – Flaherty’s Beach is absolutely breathtaking and you have to see it for yourself.
How to Get There?
Location: Flaherty Beach is located off Corny Point Road, between Hardwicke Bay and Point Turton. From the Yorke Highway turn right into Corny Point Rd and a dirt track will lead you to the car park. There is a short boardwalk to the beach from the car park.

Publicity for this beach is a shame.. as a local it was so very disheartening to see the amount of rubbish left behind, roaming dogs, cars speeding past kids and jet skis (?) . Tourists are not always a good thing.. our beach will never be the same again.. sigh.
