Fox Creek Wines Summer Series l McLaren Vale l Review

Fox Creek Wines Summer Series.

Review by Jo Parkinson

What better way to spend your Summer than with a free outdoor cinema, live music, kids holiday workshops, food, and wine? Look no further than Fox Creek Wine’s Summer Series, it’s a whole lot of fun for the whole family!

Fox Creek Wines is situated on Malpas Rd, between McLaren Vale and Willunga. Set back off the road, it’s a surprise to see how lush and green the place is once you get in there. Surrounded by vineyards, there is a huge lawned area with pretty gardens, making the area quite picturesque.

The Summer Series is a program at Fox Creek Wines which includes a free outdoor cinema in the evenings, live music, and school holiday workshops for the kids. It’s a great way to get the kids out of the house and make the most of those warm summer nights.

School Holiday Workshop

We went along to the ‘make your own fairy and dinosaur garden’ workshop run by Charlie Zammit from Charlie’s Patch. The kids had a great time participating. We loved that there was a scavenger hunt and colouring in as well. After completing the scavenger hunt, we headed to the large table that was set up with everything you needed to make your very own fairy or dinosaur garden to take home. Charlie was super friendly and gave us a quick rundown on how to make it, then the kids let their imaginations run wild and came up with some great designs!

While the kids were busy creating, the food and wine bar was open for snacks and drinks. There were also lawn games, and the huge cinema screen had television programs playing.

The Summer Series has a few different workshops to choose from. These include activities such as seed planting, crafts, painting, and sculpting. Each class is facilitated by local experts in their field. They cost between $15-$25 to participate and are recommended for kids aged 5 and up. Bookings are essential to secure your spot. The holiday workshops ended on 22 January, but we hope they will be back again next school holidays.

Free Outdoor Cinema

We had so much fun at Fox Creek the first time we went, that we decided to go back again to check out the free outdoor cinema. The movie area is set up on the grass, so take along some low chairs or a rug and set yourself up for the evening. We loved the fact that there are two movies shown each session: a family-friendly one first, then one for mature audiences. It was great to sit back and relax outside, enjoying food and drinks while we watched the movie. If the kids feel a bit restless, they can get up and walk around.

Food and Drinks

Fox Creek offers a delicious menu that includes food such as burgers, platters, wood fired pizza, salads and fish and chips. The kid’s menu has a great variety of choices and gluten free and vegetarian options are available. The wine bar has Fox Creek wine, beer, soft drinks, spirits and juice, however there is no coffee available. You are not allowed to BYO food or drink into the venue. If you don’t want to sit on the grass, there are also plenty of tables and chairs set up too.

If you are planning on having dinner at Fox Creek Wines, we recommend getting there early. You can enjoy the live music while waiting for the movie to begin. We went on a busy night and had a very long wait for our food, but luckily the movie kept us entertained while we waited.

We loved our visit to Fox Creek Wines and look forward to checking out more of the Summer Series soon!
