Where to hire a bike in Adelaide and SA’s best cycling trails.
Cycling is something the whole family can enjoy, from pre-schoolers still on training wheels to teenagers on mountain bikes. Kids can gain confidence away from traffic in areas such as the Victoria Park criterium track before venturing out at a leisurely pace on one of the beautiful trails through the Adelaide Park Lands and beyond.
Adelaide is an easy city to explore by bike with flat streets, dedicated bike lanes and a cycling infrastructure that makes it very cycle-friendly. We have bike paths that can take you down to the coast and all the way up to the hills. If you don’t own bikes, or have family and friends visiting and need extra bikes, there are a number of bike hire locations in the city and surrounding suburbs. There are also bike hire options in our regional areas such as the Barossa Valley and down at McLaren Vale.

USEFUL TIPS
- Wear light and breathable fabrics and be sure to choose white or bright colours to make sure you can be seen by other road users. A reflective vest may help you to be seen as well. A helmet is required by law.
- If there’e a chance you will still be out riding at dusk or night time make sure you have working lights on your bike.
- If your bike doesn’t have a cargo carrier, wear a well fitted backpack to hold your personal items such as phone, wallet, snacks, drink bottle etc.
- Plan your trip before setting out so you can estimate how much time it may take, and allow for rest stops. Little legs get tired quickly!
Each January, Adelaide plays host to the Tour Down Under – Australia’s greatest annual cycling race. If you are inspired to try cycling or visiting from afar without your bike you can find a list of suggested bike hire companies here.
