To celebrate National Science Week, Adelaide Zoo are hosting FREE information evenings completely open to the public, so you can learn more about what they do at the zoo!

From tiger to house cat: applying Zoos SA’s animal welfare techniques to your pets
Tuesday 13 August | 5:30pm – 6:30 pm
Do you ever wish you knew what your pet was thinking? How can you tell if they’re happy, healthy or stimulated?
Hear all about how zoo keepers use scientific methods to understand and enrich the lives of animals like rhinos, Sumatran Tigers, Spotted Hyaenas and White-cheeked Gibbons.
They’ll help you understand how your pets are affected by their environment and show you techniques to ensure they’re happy, healthy and mentally-stimulated at home.
Wild research: Zoos SA’s critical animal research and how you can get involved in projects in the wider community
Thursday 15 August | 5:30pm – 6:30pm
From keeping comprehensive records of the animals to making evidence-based decisions regarding their health and management through to larger projects that occur on an opportunistic and sometimes collaborative basis, research at the zoo can mean a number of different things!
Hear about the incredibly varied research involving a number of different animals like rhinos, African Wild Dogs, Palm Cockatoos, reptiles and more.
Learn about the different methods used to collect the zoo’s data and find out where the zoos’ research frameworks fit within what’s available in the wider community.
