FREE Swimming Lessons for Migrants | Sea Sure Swim School

Surf Lifesaving SA’s Sea Sure Swim School project aims to reduce drowning deaths in South Australia.

The National Coastal Safety Report indicates that only 38% of Australians can swim further than 30m in the ocean without stopping. It also says that swimming accounts for 33% of all drowning deaths. These statistics indicate that senior Australians, Indigenous Australians, youth and people from Culturally & Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds are over-represented in drowning and rescue statistics.

With 9.2 million beach visitations taking place in South Australia each year and 51% of all SA residents swimming at our beaches during the summer months, Surf Lifesaving SA know that preparing the community for coastal conditions is a core priority for drowning prevention.

With this in mind, Surf Life Saving South Australia would like to introduce the Sea Sure Swim School. It involves inviting public access to free, social and fitness opportunities whilst improving coastal safety literacy and increasing bonds between lifesavers and the community.
