GROUNDED: A new pop up precinct for kids and their adults
GROUNDED is a new pop-up precinct created in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga during the Adelaide Fringe 2018. It’s irreverent, creative, unique, cool and daring where kids can roam free.
GROUNDED is all about being in the heart of Adelaide in summer and connecting young people and their adults to great experiences. Art up close, great theatre that makes you feel, installations that inspire, workshops, activities, delicious food, good coffee plus the SUPERMASSIVE music festival featuring Sarah Blasko.
There are plenty of FREE activities at GROUNDED along with great value and affordable event ticket prices for individuals, families, and groups.
Opening Night | Friday 16 February 2018
The opening of the precinct will feature a strong indigenous cultural presentation on Kaurna country at Tarntanyangga (The Dream Place of the Red Kangaroo). Plus, the first performance of Saltbush – Children’s Cheering carpet will take place at 6pm.
International Theatrical Events
At the heart of the GROUNDED experience are the international theatrical events, The Secret Life of Suitcases and Saltbush – Children’s Cheering Carpet.
The Secret Life of Suitcases
The Secret Life of Suitcases is “a charming, ingenious piece of puppet theatre infused with a spirit of adventure”. Larry’s world gets turned upside down by a fantastical flying suitcase that suddenly appears at his door. This suitcase has a mission and takes Larry further than he ever thought.

Saltbush – Children’s Cheering Carpet
Saltbush – Children’s Cheering Carpet is an interactive journey through the culture and landscape of Aboriginal Australia, celebrated through live dance, music, song, and stories. Adults watch on as children are invited to explore, play and dance with the performers as the landscape unfolds around them on a visually beautiful journey.

SUPERMASSIVE Music Festival
SUPERMASSIVE Music Festival | Sunday 25 February 2018 | 11am-7pm
The finale of the two-week event at GROUNDED will be Supermassive, a music festival programmed for people of all ages with a packed and unique program that ranges from slam poetry, music, dance and climbing gyms to art up close, installations that inspire, creative workshops PLUS delicious food and great coffee.
There will be something for everyone kicking off from 11am on Sunday 25 February and offering a full day of entertainment through to 7pm.
Headlining the Supermassive line-up will be highly acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko.
Also appearing at Supermassive are Heaps Good Friends, Adam Page, 13-year-old Australian slam poet champion Sollio Raphael and DJ TRIP with more artists to be announced soon.

FREE Outdoor Movie Screening | Girl Asleep (Rated M) | Saturday 24 February 2018
Based on the critically acclaimed production by Windmill Theatre, Girl Asleep is a journey into the absurd, scary and beautiful heart of the teenage mind.
Interactive Installations
- The Megaphone Project an interactive collection of red megaphones of many shapes and sizes.
- Participatory installation where children can help to weave a large-‐scale structure reflecting the idea of home, incorporating indigenous storytelling, and more.
Food & Drink
Through a partnership with Adelaide Central Market traders, 2018’s coolest one-stop Fringe precinct will offer an amazing array of delicious local food and beverages.
