Hamilton Park Reserve Playground in Warradale features a super tall tower with long slides and plenty of fun for bike riders.
Review by Claire Davill
Hamilton Park Reserve’s brand new playground features an imposing, tall tower with three tube slides of differing lengths. These are some of the longest tube slides we’ve seen, and you have a choice of a mostly straight one or a twisty one. The third slide is smaller, for those who get a little overwhelmed on such long slides.
The tower itself is suitable for kids of all ages, although little kids may need some assistance from adults. There are no tricky climbs inside the tower, with steps and platforms all the way up, and extra slots for little feet. There’s also plenty of grip bars for balance. You can access the tower via wooden stairs or a small climbing wall.
The slides are so big, that they need support poles – which add an extra play feature for kids who like to climb.
Next to the tower is a swing set with a regular swing and toddler swing.
There’s a simple, but innovative sand play area nearby. The large sand pit contains a small chute and sand wheel, but the real attraction is the bench with multiple stencils for making sand art. You can make dogs, cats, bikes and soccer players.
The sandpit is right next to one of the picnic shelters, with a table and BBQ, and behind that is a basketball hoop.
There’s a great little sealed bike path around the main playground equipment, with an optional hilly section, perfect for little kids to start practicing their bmx skills.
A springy seesaw is also included in the main playground area.
The bike path branches off the from the loop around the main playground equipment, passing by a series of signs featuring poems about the history of the area, and continues on to the courts nearby.
Surrounding the courts you’ll find a toilet block with change table, another picnic shelter and barbeque, and some exercise equipment. The exercise equipment includes monkey bars, pull up bars and push up/tricep dip benches.
Inside the courts area, there’s a tennis court and a huge area featuring a painted bike riding track, four square court and a hopscotch. There’s another basketball hoop at one end and a netball hoop at the other. The netball hoop is nice and low, great for little kids who want to practice.
Things to Consider:
- The playground is not fenced. It is far away from the roads, in the centre of the large reserve, and the surrounding roads are residential and not very busy.
- The playground is not shaded, except for the large gum trees throughout the reserve. Take sunscreen and hats on sunny days.
- The main area of the playground has bark chips for soft fall, and there are no accessible features in the playground.
- Be careful when exiting the tube slides, and don’t run onto the little bike track that surrounds the playground.
- Bring your bikes for the bike paths and balls for the hoops and four square court.
