2018 Adelaide Fringe Opening Weekend featuring free family friendly events
Make the most of the 2018 Adelaide Fringe opening weekend with plenty of (mostly free and family friendly) events in the city of Adelaide.
To kick off the 2018 Adelaide Fringe, North Terrace will come alive with the opening night street party featuring roaming street performers, the gastronomical delights of the Night Markets, Frusic (Music SA Stage), Tindo Utpurndee Sunset Ceremony and the switching on of the Parade of Light.
Opening Night Street Party
- 5pm – 10pm Friday 16 February 2018 | North Terrace (free event)
To officially open to the 2018 Adelaide Fringe everyone is invited to this special sunset ceremony to recognise the living culture of the First Nations and to pay respect to the spirit of the land. When you walk in someone else’s country it is always important to walk softly and with respect. This place holds many ancient stories and Tindo Utpurndee is one of those, which speaks of spirit and sharing of light.
Tindo Utpurndee (Sunset Ceremony)
- 8pm Friday 16 February 2018 | South Australian Museum Lawns (free event)
Following immediately after the Tindo Utpurndee will be the official ‘switching on’ of the Parade of Light’ light show. Watch as the world’s most beautiful natural phenomenon The Northern Lights is recreated right here in Adelaide.
- 8.30pm Friday 16 February 2018 | South Australian Museum Lawns, North Terrace (free event)
Watch as North Terrace comes alive every night of the Fringe with a spectacular corridor of light connecting the city’s eastern parklands to the Riverbank precinct. With buildings serving as projection canvases, eclectic night markets and a electric opening night street party, the Parade of Light will provide artists with a designated place to interact with audiences for all thirty-one nights of the Fringe.
