Adelaide Gang Show
The annual Gang Show presented by Scouts SA is the largest and longest running variety show in SA. This year marks 57 years with a show about that all too commonly asked question and igniter of many a household battle…. ‘Who has the Remote?’
In Adelaide, cast members have spent countless hours rehearsing comedy skits, song and dance whilst hundreds of non-performing volunteers will produce the effects, costumes and set. In a nod to the popularity and longevity of Gang Show, 55 of the approximately 250 cast and crew members are new to the show for this 2017 season.
About the show:
Gang Show is an amateur theatrical performance where the cast is made up of serving youth members of Scouts and Guides. The aim of the show is to give young people in Scouting and Guiding the opportunity to develop performance skills and to perform in a close to professional theatrical environment under the auspices of the Performing Arts Section of Scouting. Backstage personnel are in either Movements or former Gang members who have returned to follow their childrens dreams, or are volunteer helpers. The cast age ranges from 9 years old to 28 years of age. Fifty percent of the show has been written by the Adelaide Gang Show production team with a couple of songs and sketches from interstate Gang Show.
As just a snapshot of the work that goes into the show, there is more than 145 hours of cast rehearsals, 280 hours of workshops building scenery, lighting, hand props and making costumes. Additionally, over 1500 meals are served over 4 weekends of rehearsals and performances with more than 1000 costume changes per show. Production starts planning the next show in August of the previous year!
