Adelaide’s Giant Father Christmas | Adelaide Central Market

Giant Father Christmas returns to the Adelaide Central Market.

The Market Tower on Grote Street in Adelaide is once again the proud home to Australia’s largest Father Christmas.

Adelaide’s iconic giant Father Christmas, which once graced the David Jones building in Rundle Mall every year, (and previously the old John Martins store) is back at the Adelaide Central Market after being given a new lease of life last year.

Adelaide’s smiling, waving 16 metre giant jolly Father Christmas was built in the 1960’s, but not much else is known about its origins.  Constructed of fibreglass with a steel structure, the Adelaide City Council retired him in 2018 due to the ongoing cost of repairs, storage and maintenance.  Thanks to media personality Cosi, the South Australian community and businesses who contributed to the fundraising efforts, our state’s giant Father Christmas statue was repaired and rejuvenated last year and is once again back on display for the 2023 Christmas season.

We are so glad to see Adelaide’s Giant Santa back on display for everyone to see as they drive through the city.  Local residents and visitors to Adelaide will love seeing him as they travel along Grote Street or when shopping at the Adelaide Central Market.
