Carclew’s Explore Arts school holiday program

Carclew’s Explore Arts school holiday program is here and Carclew are so excited to announce that October brings THE BEST OF EXPLORE ARTS. Their team of professional artists present a broad range of inspiring, hands-on experiences for 5-17 year olds that will nurture their inner-artist and allow them to try out new techniques and make new friends. Full program with full day and half-day creative activities below!

Cost & Times:

Full day workshops | $85 / $65 conc | 9am – 5pm
Half day workshops | $55 / $45 conc | Morning 9am-12:45pm | Afternoon 1:30-5pm

SET IN MOTION: STOP MOTION ANIMATION | Ages: 9 – 12
Create your own mouldable characters and bring them to life with claymation techniques. Design and direct your own Lego “Brick Film” Animation. The finished videos will be shown on the big screen and then uploaded to YouTube.

LIFE AT 25 FRAMES PER SECOND: EXCURSION TO ANIFEX | Ages: 13 – 17
Join Carclew on an inspirational behind the scenes tour of the ANIFEX facilities and studio space. Learn about stop-motion, simple lighting and camera set up from the experts then create your own cut-out animation and clay characters for a mini group animation project. ** Offsite arts-cursion. Drop off and pick up at ANIFEX, 65 King William St, Kent Town **

Thursday 4 October 2018 |2-in-1 : Book half or full day

CELLOGRAPH: AEROSOL ART | Ages: 5-8 (AM) Ages: 9-12 (PM)
Explore aerosol art creative techniques including can control, spray can design tricks and effects with mentor graffiti artist. You’ll be working outdoors to design and create a graffiti work as a group, then a solo piece to take home.

FLORA AND FAUNA: PRINTMAKING | Ages: 9-12 (AM) Ages: 5-8 (PM)
Take inspiration from native plants and animals to create your very own collection of prints. Learn lino cutting techniques on foam print sheets, to create a tile to transfer onto to a variety of materials. Create your own card or artwork to frame.

Tuesday 9 October 2018 |  2-in-1 : Book half or full day

CRAZY CREATURE HEADWEAR: Sculpture | Ages: 5 – 8 (AM) Ages 9 – 12 (PM)
News Flash – A new creature has been discovered at Carclew. Does it have the horn of a unicorn? Scales of a fish? Teeth of a lion? You decide! Create wearable, hangable masks inspired by a mixture of Carclew’s favourite animals. Your crazy creatures will then be featured in an exhibition at the Carclew Dusk Markets.

MONSTER MAKING: ILLUSTRATION & PAPERCRAFT | Ages: 5 – 8 (PM) Ages 9 – 12 (AM)
Turn the monsters of your dreams into reality! Imagine the gruesome textures and anatomy of your monster, make a cardboard cut-out of them to stand on your desk and then create its story and sketch out in a mini zine while it looks on.

Wednesday 10 October

XXL ART: INSTALLATION, MURALS & PROPS | Ages: 7 – 12
Create huge artworks that fill a room, art you can play IN! Walk through and around art by working on large scale materials.  Make installations and props with Dave Court that will be displayed at the Dusk Arts Markets.

Wednesday 10 & Thursday 11 October | 2-day workshop

ART OF ILLUSTRATION: BOOK ILLUSTRATION | Ages: 10 – 17
Learn the ins and outs of book illustration from character development, storyboards to final illustrations. Use elements of illustration to create a visual language that extends and complements the words. Bring along a story, poem or song lyrics to illustrate.

MAKE IT MOVE: MECHANICAL SCULPTURE | Ages: 7 – 12
Turn static objects into interactive and playful works of art. By experimenting with mechanisms such as cams, cranks, followers and levers, you will create your very own mechanical sculpture. Build your sculpture using cardboard and recycled materials, then bring it to life through movement.
