The City of Adelaide is thrilled to invite you to celebrate Christmas in the city featuring a wide range of city-wide events, lively markets, enchanting Christmas decorations, and captivating live performances that will fill your heart with Christmas spirit.

Adelaideโ€™s Christmas Tree Lighting โ€“ Saturday 18 November in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga

Join a free community celebration, featuring lively performers and culminating in the illumination of the giant Christmas Tree at approximately 8:45 pm by the Lord Mayor and special guest! Indulge in delectable treats from food trucks while basking in the live entertainment. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic blankets to sit on and enjoy the festivities from.

Festive Weekends 

Embrace the holiday spirit with a series of Festive Weekends in the heart of the city at Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga:

Christmas Wonderland | Saturday 2 December 2023

Bamboozled will transform the square into a playful childrenโ€™s festival hub โ€˜Christmas Wonderlandโ€™ creating magical Christmas experiences including circus, theatre, and live music.

Adelady Christmas Village | Friday 15 and Saturday 16 December 2023

The Adelady Christmas Village will see a diverse range of high-quality vendors, engaging entertainment, and a family friendly festive experience.

Musical Peformances

Experience a magical celebration of diverse and inclusive live music before lighting up the iconic Giant Christmas tree in the heart of Adelaide.

From classical tunes by ASO performers to the rhythmic beats of African drumming, the performances promise to capture the true spirit of the season.

  • 19 December, 7:00 pm: Bonnie Lee Galea
  • 20 December, 7:30 pm: Adelaide Vocal Union
  • 21 December, 7:30 pm: Brazil Nuts Orchestra

  • 23 December, 5:00 pm: Sun of Africa Drum & Dance Ensemble followed by Heinicke String Quartet at 7:00 pm

Christmas Wrap Party | Friday 22 December 2023

The Christmas Wrap Party will entertain the after-work crowds with music, dancing, food and beverage on the final Friday before Christmas. A chance for city workers to โ€˜down toolsโ€™ and head into the square with colleagues, family and friends.

The Santa Course is coming to Adelaide

Santa wears a lot of hats to get everything ready for Christmas, but this year heโ€™s got his candy canes in a knot. Now, he needs your help. His different tasks are scattered all around Adelaide, and heโ€™s left a magical trail in his wake.

How to complete The Santa Course
From North Adelaide to Rundle Mall, youโ€™ll find tasks here, bells there, and 10 giant Santas everywhere! Follow The Santa Course to help Santa complete his Santa chores, and learn some Santa secrets along the way. Find all 10 Santas for your chance to win!

Christmas Decorations in the City

Discover Christmas cheer and joy across the city with sparkling lights, colourful decorations and the arrival of all of your favourite festive characters. Stroll through the city and North Adelaide to encounter a delightful array of Christmas decorations, from dazzling Christmas baubles and wreaths to life-size gift boxes and even a giant Lego sleigh!

Giant LEGO Sleigh

The life-sized LEGO Sleigh is back this year at The Piccadilly on Oโ€™Connell Street! From 10am to 10pm until Wednesday 7 February 2024* head to the recently renovated cinema to see the impressive sleigh, take Santaโ€™s reigns and sit on the sleigh for a festive photo.

Giant Christmas Tree at Mortlock Library

Each year the magic of Christmas comes to South Australiaโ€™s Mortlock Library, one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.

There is something for everyone to see and discover at the State Library, from the largest indoor Christmas tree in Adelaide and storytelling sessions under the tree by local authors, to fun displays from the State Libraryโ€™s collections and festive performances.
