Christmas in Rundle Mall | Entertainment Guide | December 2012

If you plan on heading into the city for some Christmas shopping this month you’ll discover something on each and every day to entertain the whole family in Rundle Mall.  Keep an eye out for the cheeky elves, dancing presents and Rundle Mall’s beloved mascot Ginger, as they roam around the mall on Mondays and Tuesdays spreading Christmas cheer!

The highlight for many families will be the opportunity to ride the carousel.  Kids will be delighted by the beautiful sights and sounds of the Christmas Carousel under the Gawler Place Canopy from Tuesday, 11th December 2012 until Sunday, 6th January 2013. Carousel rides are $5 per person.

On Saturdays and Sundays there will be the regular Street Theatre Performances by a range of entertaining characters including the ‘Giant Candies’, ‘Elf Spin’, ‘Ouch Goblins’ and ‘Big Rory and Ochie’!

The Australian Girls Choir, The Salvation Army Choir and Gospo Music – Adelaide’s Leading Gospel Choir will all perform at various times over the next few weeks.  It really feels like Christmas when you hear the melodic sound of choristers echoing down Rundle Mall.  Click here to see the list of dates and times each choir will be performing.

Rundle Mall has planned something extra special for the kids this Christmas…

To kick start the school holidays there will be a ‘Kid’s Activity Centre’ next to the Christmas Carousel in December from Monday 17th until Thursday 20th.  Kids can also fill in an activity/colouring-in form for the chance to win a Family Pass to see Disney’s new LIVE show ‘Mickey’s Rockin’ Roadshow’showing in Adelaide on January 21st & 22nd.

There will also be a special performance  on Thursday, 13th December from 12.30pm – 1.30pm where kids will have the opportunity to meet one of the Disney stars from Mickey’s Rockin’ Roadshow!

Hi There, just thought I’d let you know that the carousel in Rundle Mall is not a free ride. I took my 2 little boys (aged 4 and almost 3) there yesterday, and they were so excited to get on the “horseys” that I couldn’t tell them no, even though I had to fork out $5 for each of them They had to go on by themselves, as I would have had to pay if i was going to sit down next to them!! Not very happy, especially as money is very tight this close to Christmas. Rundle Mall should adjust it’s advertising, as I couldn’t see anything about paying for this ride on their website, either! And to top it all off, the girl in the ticket box was rude so-and-so!! Kathy

    Hi Kathy
Thanks for letting us know. I agree, $5 per ride seems a lot to fork out when shopping in the mall (especially as the rides at the Magic Cave & Myer Santaland are free). Their other rides at other times eg the plane ride after the Christmas Pageant, have been free, so I can understand people expecting that the carousel would also be free. We have updated the post on our website to include the cost.
Thanks for your continued support of Play & Go. Have a fabulous Christmas and Happy New Year!
    Cheers

Can I please clarify if the kids activity centre is still available today, being Friday 21st, as I note the end date states til Friday 20th, so not sure if the day or date is incorrect. Thanks

    Hi Jess
Thanks for bringing that to our attention. We were given that information from Rundle Mall and didn’t notice the error. I have just checked their website and in the detailed area it states that the activity centre is until Thursday 20 December. http://www.rundlemall.com/news-and-events/Rundle-Mall-EVENTS-CALENDAR-for-Christmas-2012.shtml
