Deep Creek Conservation Park, one of South Australia’s most scenic bushland reserves, will be on show at a free Community Open Day on Sunday 22 September.  Joining parks staff for the day will be Fleurieu community organisations including Cape Jervis Markets, Friends of Deep Creek, Friends of Heysen Trail, Lions Club, Native Animal Network, Raywood Native Plant Nursery and Southern Ocean Retreats.

Fleurieu District Ranger Paul Unsworth said the event was being planned as a fun day out for all ages with catering, face painting and other children’s activities provided.  Mr Unsworth said the event would give the community an opportunity to find out more about Deep Creek and the local organisations also on display on the day.  Activities will be focused around Deep Creek’s park headquarters from 11am, with visitors encouraged to enjoy the community displays as well as exploring the park during their visit.

“Deep Creek Conservation Park is an absolute jewel that’s available to the entire Fleurieu community,” Mr Unsworth said.

“For lovers of wildlife, the park is the largest single block of natural bush habitat on the Fleurieu Peninsula, home to western grey kangaroos, short-beaked echidnas and around 100 native bird species.  “And for those looking to shake out the cobwebs a bit, Deep Creek’s got some great walking trails with spectacular views over Backstairs Passage to Kangaroo Island and down into the rugged Deep Creek valley.  The Country Fire Service, Cleland Wildlife Park, and Natural Resources Adelaide & Mt Lofty Ranges fire management and volunteer support units will also take part.

Deep Creek Conservation Park is located 108km south of Adelaide. Access is via Main South Road from Adelaide or Range Road from Victor Harbor.
