Enchantments | Adelaide Fringe Review 2019

Kids and adults who are intrigued by magic will enjoy Pierre Ulric’s show, ‘Enchantments’. We saw it at the Pocket at Stirling Fringe, and although the setting was extremely intimate, Pierre has a way of making everyone in the audience feel respected and comfortable, particularly when called up on stage or asked to participate from their seat.

This is a highly interactive show and plenty of kids and adults in the audience had the opportunity to participate in performing magic alongside him. Each time a child assists, he encourages them and ensures that they feel a sense of accomplishment.

Pierre’s show is not purely about magic, but he incorporates wise sayings and teachings to encourage younger members of the audience to be inspired, to show kindness and respect and to treasure their imagination.

The show features some traditional magic and illusion – a levitating apple, gold rings, magic rope and card tricks but perhaps the most mystifying illusion was his ability to unveil objects which appeared from underneath his hat out of thin air. At first we saw lemons appear, then oranges followed by a large coconut. There were a few gasps from audience members who were genuinely baffled by what they had witnessed.

Enchantments is a really positive, family friendly show which is suitable for all ages and will appeal to kids who are particularly interested in magic and who like the challenge of figuring out how illusions are created.
