Festival of the Magpie at Cleland Wildlife Park

Known for their sweet song and sometimes vicious aerial assaults, the magpie is a highly intelligent bird, and one that is often misunderstood.

To help gain a better understanding of magpies and their habits, Cleland Wildlife Park is holding a two day ‘Festival of the Magpie’ event on the weekend of the 17 & 18 August 2019 in conjunction with National Science Week and Book Week. There will be a range of activities for children and the young-at-heart to celebrate the marvellous maggie.

Program:

Saturday:

  • 11am | Children’s entertainment- Mungo Magpie and friends
  • 1pm | Magpie stories with Chris Daniels, author of “The Fearsome Flute Players”
  • 2pm | Special guest speaker John Gitsham, Director of Birds SA
  • 3pm | Children’s entertainment- Mungo Magpie and friends
  • 4pm | Bird feeder making

Sunday:

  • 11am | Children’s entertainment- Mungo Magpie and friends
  • 12pm | Bird feeder making
  • 1pm | Magpie stories with Chris Daniels, author of “The Fearsome Flute Players”
  • 2pm | Special guest speaker John Gitsham, Director of Birds SA
  • 3pm | Children’s entertainment- Mungo Magpie and friends

Kids activities:

  • Big bird nest making– get hands on and creative and make your own human sized birds nest
  • Bird feeder making– make a hanging bird seed feeder to take home and hang in your own garden
  • Cleland Education’s bird trail– discover cool facts about birds all over the park
  • Special guests from SA Birds and Minton Farm will also be attending to share information about their important work and knowledge about magpies and other native birds

You can purchase entry tickets on the day at the ticket office or you can pre-purchase your tickets online.
