Fish & Chips, Sand and Fun at Henley Beach | Review

Henley Beach

Henley Beach

Henley Beach is one of our favourite places to visit, especially during summer.

On a hot day we usually aim to get there around 5.30pm or later to avoid the burning sun and to take advantage of the warmer water, which has had time during the day to heat up. The waters at Henley are generally fairly calm so it’s a popular beach for families with little ones.

On a still evening that’s not breezy, when the water is very calm, it is clear as clear can be.   Plus there is lots of soft sand for very important sandcastle making!

Henley Beach Square

One of the great things about Henley Beach is the Square, where there is a big grassy area or steps you can sit on, if you are not keen to eat on the sand.  It also features a public plaza with water play area, adorned with fairly lights.

Henley Beach Square is also surrounded by some popular cafes, restaurants and ice cream shops. The Foodland across the road is convenient during the day for snacks and a box of ice blocks, if there is a group of you together. This is a popular spot for families, and during the year numerous community events are held here too.

Fish and Chips at Henley Beach

Our favourite food place would have to be The Stunned Mullet, just near the beach at 8 East Terrace, Henley Beach. A little fish & chip shop which serves fresh fish, it is hugely popular by everyone who knows their fish & chips around this area. Look, it’s not the cheapest fish & chips, but it’s fresh and the quality is always good.

Play & Go Tip:

Ring ahead and order your food to avoid the sometimes long wait for orders as it’s always busy (phone 08 8356 7696). We often order on the way to Henley Beach so it is ready by the time we get there; pick up the food and then head to the beach. The flathead fillets and chips with chicken salt (above) is our favourite.
