Gumeracha Medieval Fair | 8 & 9 May 2021

Gumeracha Medieval Fair

The fair was originally scheduled for May 2020 but was postponed until 8-9 May 2021.

The postponed fourteenth annual Gumeracha Medieval Fair will be held on the 8 and 9 May in the Federation Park. Once again, there will be another two days of medieval fun and excitement. In 2021, their resident Oracle has forecasted mostly fair weather and the event promises to be even bigger than the 16,000-strong crowd that attended in 2019.

Highlights:

The King’s Horses Equestrian Group:

This group will show off their “Jousting and skill at arms”. In the combat arena the Knights and Vikings from the Medieval Re-enactment Groups will again bring out their swords in Tournaments (together with all sorts of “daring do”) attempting to defeat their opponents.

Viking encampments:

The Viking encampments will have re-enactors coming from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. They are always particularly interesting, demonstrating their craftwork skills and techniques of campfire cooking for the patrons as well as their fighting skills in the arena.

Music and Medieval Market:

Musicians from across the state will provide medieval folk music from many cultural backgrounds. There will be a new stage area for the entertainment and a “Medieval Market”.

Merchants Lane:

The “Merchants Lane” will also be offering a wide range of medieval-style crafts and activities.

Children’s Area:

The children’s area is set to include Storytellers, Face Painters, a children’s Costume-maker, Native Animal Nursery and the very popular Punch and Judy show, as well as other wonderful stalls and activities to ensure there is something for the whole family to enjoy. The daily Costume Competition on the banks of Kenton Creek will cause a flurry of excitement for everyone.

Food:

More Food purveyors will be following the medieval theme with sumptuous tastes to tempt the passer-by. Foods and beverages derived in the local Torrens Valley area, Wendy and David Cook of the Birdwood Wine & Cheese Centre will be there in the Tavern together with the famous “Mien Hosts” from the Lobethal Bierhaus serving their award-winning beers and the Thistle Meadery. On Saturday night, the Town Hall will be alive with Medieval Feasting and Entertainment- BYO drinks (perhaps from the selection found in the Tavern).

Smithy:

Across Kenton Creek in the Medieval Village visitors will find village blacksmiths and chain maille makers hard at work in the “smithy”. The village encapsulates what life was like in medieval times, as the Spinners, the Herbalist, Leather artisans, Calligraphers, the Cooper and several woodworkers ply their trade.

Archery Ground:

Past the village, patrons will find the Medieval Archery ground where they can experience demonstrations with the famous English longbow.
