Hairspray – The Big Fat Arena Spectacular looks set to break world records when it bounces into the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on 14 and 15 October 2016. Featuring a professional cast of musical theatre performers and a large amateur ensemble of more than 500 young Adelaide performers ranging in age from 9- 21 years, this production will blow the roof off the Entertainment Centre. So prepare to take a journey back to the swingin’ 60’s when Harvest Rain presents the record breaking, largest production ever of everyone’s favourite musical, Hairspray.
It’s 1962, and pleasantly plump Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire – to be on television dancing on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star, but she must use her newfound power to vanquish the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a television network – all without denting her ‘do!
Starring Simon Burke as Edna Turnblad, Christine Anu as Motormouth Maybelle, and Wayne Scott Kermond as Wilbur Turnblad and with explosive choreography and stunning sets and costumes, Hairspray will be an unforgettable journey back to the 60s.
