Coffee, wine, beer, cider, cheese, cake… these are a few of my favourite things….

After a less than relaxing drive with the kids doing a great impersonation of the Ultra Tune ad’s annoying noise in the back of the car….I discover myself at Wirra Wirra Winery’s newly opened Harry’s Deli. As soon as I open the huge wooden front door, I breathe a sigh of relief and relax. It’s like entering a large wine barrel, complete with earthy sensory overload and aromas of local produce.

There before me is Luke, Luke Beare the McLaren Vale ‘ Barista Coffee King’ who is waiting to smash out a Dawn Patrol ‘ Church Block’ blend coffee and my slightly ruffled feathers from the car trip down all of a sudden smooth out. What a place to unwind!

Children disappear into the winery’s gardens to play hide and seek, whilst I work my way through the comprehensive menu, detailing all the local SA producers on offer. These include San Jose Smallgoods, Clappis breads, Say Cheese, Dawn Patrol coffee, Fine & Dandy Teas, Spice Girlz, Four Winds Chocolate, Mork Specialty Hot Chocolate, Derek’s Olive Oil, Janeys Haloumi and Swell Brewing beers and ciders. Bliss!

For those that aren’t latte sipping inclined, the cellar door next door offers many nice drops of Wirra Wirra to sample; whilst partaking in a cheese deli platter. There is even a bbq with views over the picturesque vines, for an easy BBQ lunch option for a few families whilst the kids run around. Wirra Wirra has options for all.

So if you are looking for a “Spring is Sprung” drive to McLaren Vale in search of your favourite things, head to Wirra Wirra and soak up the earthy relaxed vibe of Harry’s Deli and visit Luke to work his coffee magic on your soul.

These are a few of my favourite things…..

When the dog bites, when the kids scream, when I’m feeling bad I simply remember my favourite things and then I don’t feel so bad!

This review was written and photographed by Emma Parkinson of Adelaide Boutique Online. Meet Emma …. Child wrangling mother of three, with an albeit mundane background in health/finance and recruitment. The three c’s in her life (her 3 children) has led her to treasure three other c’s……coffee, culture and champagne. Not necessarily in that order! A need for escapism from the daily routine of marriage and motherhood led Emma to explore. Whether it be new exciting cafes, restaurants, shops, galleries, markets, playgrounds, children’s activities, accommodation, farmgates; Emma loves to track them down and discover ‘Boutique Adelaide’. Welcome to part of her journey. Enjoy the ride …..or should I say read.
