Norwood Swimming Centre with Outdoor Pools

Don’t know much about Norwood Swimming Centre? Well, it’s a bit of a secret destination for locals – it’s not as fancy as some of its bigger cousins and has sometimes been forgotten or some people don’t even know about it. We have always loved that it’s not as busy as some public pools.

This much loved 1950s swimming centre is located within a lovely Rivergum shaded setting surrounded by green grass and is perfect for lap swimming or just cooling off on a hot day.

Facilities include:

  • 50 metre main pool
  • shaded toddler pool
  • Inflatable obstacle course (Sundays between 12.30pm and 3.30pm from December to end of February)
  • change rooms
  • shower and bathroom facilities
  • BBQs
  • kiosk

The toddler pool is completely shaded and its proximity to the big pool means that it’s easier to supervise if you have kids of different ages.  In fact because it’s only the two pools side by side it’s generally easier to supervise. There’s lots of grass to sit down and relax out of the water, a few bench seats and lots of shady trees.  On a hot day by around 4pm the tall trees offer shade across most of the pool too.

They have gas BBQs available (that are kept inside the shed). These can be used for free – just ask one of the lifeguards and they can help you get it out. Perfect for a sausage sizzle dinner with the family.

Sadly the old diving board which was very popular has been removed, but the kids still enjoy jumping off the blocks in the deep end (which is 2.7 metres deep).

Inflatable Obstacle Course

You can try out your skills and beat the clock on the inflatable obstacle course at the Norwood Swimming Centre every Sunday between 12.30pm and 3.30pm from December until the end of February (these dates are subject to change).

Please note that children must pass a 25 metre swimming test to be able to go on the obstacle course ie they need to be able to swim confidently over the length of the pool. This is because the inflatable is in the deep end of the pool and they need to be able to easily swim from the end of the course to the edge of the pool to exit. This is the same procedure as the inflatables at the aquatic centres.

Once they have passed the swimming test they’ll be given a wrist band to show they are allowed on the obstacle. It’s one person at a time so there may be line-ups but you can go on as many times as you like.

Standard entry fees apply and weather conditions may affect availability.
