Kids Konga® for a Cure | Kids Fitness Class | Everard Park | 12 Apr 2018

Kids Konga® for a Cure

The Roxy Centre is partnering with The Jungle Body Adelaide & JDRF Australia to bring their first KONGA® Kids class to help raise funds & awareness for Type 1 Diabetes.

KONGA® Kids is an adapted version of The Jungle Body’s KONGA®. It is a fitness class designed to suit the needs and wants of children aged 5-14 (age is a guide only, all ages are welcome to join in). It goes for approximately 45 minutes. It is a fusion of simplistic dance and fitness movements combined with popular music that is appealing and appropriate to kids. Adults are also welcome to participate in the class with their children.

Six Australians every day receive the life-changing news that they have type 1 diabetes, most of them children.

“Exercise is an absolutely vital part of type 1 diabetes treatment. Staying fit and active throughout your life has many benefits, but the biggest one for people with diabetes is this: it helps you control diabetes and prevent long-term complications. Exercise makes it easier to control your blood glucose (blood sugar) level. Exercise benefits people with type 1 because it increases your insulin sensitivity. In other words, after exercise, your body doesn’t need as much insulin to process carbohydrates.

Making sure your child gets enough exercise is not only a great way to help manage his or her diabetes but also instil healthy habits from an early age.”
