Leukaemia Foundation – Light the Night
Light up Australia for blood cancer and come together to transform the darkness into a sea of glowing light to beat blood cancer.
This is a night to walk beside those facing their own blood cancer journey, and to remember loved ones lost. But it’s more than that – it’s a time to help raise vital funds for urgently needed blood cancer research. When you register for Light the Night, you receive your special lantern to carry as darkness falls. Lanterns are raised high in a moving ceremony to pay tribute to those facing their own blood cancer journey and to remember loved ones lost, creating a glowing sea of support.
Together, the crowd then carries their lanterns along a reflective walk to Light the Night. Each coloured lantern carries a special meaning: Gold to remember loved ones lost to blood cancer, white for those diagnosed themselves and blue to show community support for all those affected.
The event is held at Botanic Park. Entertainment and food will be available.
Schedule of events:
- 5:30pm | Lantern collection and entertainment commences
- 7pm | Lantern lighting ceremony
- 7:30pm | Light the Night walk
- 8pm | Official Close
About the cause:
Every day another 35 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer. That’s one Aussie every 41 minutes. Blood cancer claims more lives than breast cancer and melanoma and sadly an Australian loses their life to blood cancer every two hours. Right now across the country, 60,000 people are living with blood cancer’s devastating impact.
More research into understanding the causes, better treatments and cure for blood cancer is urgently needed. By raising money in the lead up to Light the Night, you can help fund research to help more people survive and ultimately beat blood cancer.
