Life – The Show | Adelaide Fringe 2019 Review

Leave the kids at home and make ‘Life – The Show’ a date night or night out with your friends.

★★★ 4 Stars for something fun and unsurprisingly impressive.

Headlining The Garden of Unearthly Delights this year, hosted in the Spiegeltent, is the return of Strut & Fret Production House (Blanc de Blanc, Limbo) with Life – The Show. A titillating burlesque mix of highly polished performances that tickle the edges just enough to whet the appetite but without tipping over into unadulterated raunch.

The first half leads audiences through a loose journey touching on some of life’s pivotal moments – love, marriage, sex, birth told through our endearing main characters as they fumble through the journey. The second half is an enthralling celebration of being alive.

The combination of lighting effects, music, humour and breathtaking performances captures the imagination and leaves the audience uplifted and only slightly bewildered – in a true reflection of life itself.

There is a modest amount of audience interaction, nothing for conservative audience members to be nervous of so don’t be afraid to sit front and centre, and very minimal (but full frontal) nudity. It’s definitely one for the adults, but unlikely to offend.

Life – The Show boasts a cast of A-listers in their field including Goos Meeuwsen and Helena Bittencourt (Cirque du Soleil), jazz vocalist Lee Taylor, Blaise Garza (Violent Femmes), Hilton Denis (LIMBO), Rechelle Mansour (Velvet), Tim Kriegler (La Clique) and Brooklyn’s drumming powerhouse Attis Clopton.

With an international ensemble plucked from such lofty heights, you can be sure that a ticket to Life – The Show is a safe bet at this year’s Fringe Festival. You know (roughly) what you’re going to get, and you know it’s going to be good.

Life – The Show is playing at The Fortuna Spiegeltent in the Garden of Unearthly Delights until 17 March 2019.
