Tea Tree Gully Council has released final designs for an exciting new playground at Modbury’s Civic Park – part of a $1.7 million overall park upgrade

To be completed by early December 2016, the new playground will have three play zones to cater for different age groups and abilities, including a three-storey play unit, climbing frame and large rope swing.

Sound and music elements will challenge and inspire children through exploration, adventure and imagination.

The playground will be orientated to maximise shade and utilise existing pathways and irrigated turf areas, and to minimise damage to landscaping.

Underground drainage work has already started to provide more space for the playground, which will be officially closed from September 2016 through to early December 2016.

The State Government is supporting this part of the project with $325,000 in funding.

Works areas will be fenced off during construction, but the majority of Civic Park will remain open.

As one of the area’s premiere parks, Civic Park is the focal point for many major community events, such as Civic Park Carols and outdoor movies over summer.

The playground is the first of many improvements planned for Civic Park as part of a long-term plan to revitalise the Modbury area.

The second round of improvements for Civic Park are being planned, thanks to an additional $420,000 in State Government funding.

This will help fund improvements to parking, paths, lighting, underground services for events and a new toilet block in a better location.
