Once Upon a Fairy Tale High Tea at Glanville Hall – Review July 2019

by Ashleigh Grant

The afternoon started off with a collection of excited children dressed in everything from Disney princesses to witches, pirates and even some wizards. As they eagerly waited on the red carpet for the doors of the enchanted castle to open, little giggles and gasps could be heard as a beautiful sorceress made her entrance and welcomed the guests.

Once the doors were opened we were shown to our seats by a sparkly-lipped ‘lady-corn’ (lady unicorn). The room sure did look like a scene from a fairy tale! The ceiling was adorned with draped white fairy-lights and an impressive chandelier. In the centre of the room was an alluring ‘wishing tree’ with little cushions and toadstool chairs underneath. This would later set the scene for some adorable photos as well as some spontaneous imaginative play.

The tables were indeed set for royalty with vintage mismatched crockery, shining silverware and tiered stands filled with ham and cheese quiche, mac and cheese croquettes (an easy favourite!), chicken and leek pies and delicate finger sandwiches. The guests were offered tea, coffee and hot chocolate as well as an unlimited supply of pink lemonade.

Whilst little fingers made their way through the delicious savoury treats, the hostess Kelly invited some magical characters to join in the fun! The dazzling sorceress reappeared accompanied by her impressive knight as well as an adorable prince and princess. They made their way slowly around the room introducing themselves to the children and taking photos with those who wished to do so.

Then it was craft time! The children were lead to an enchanting crown creating room with dazzling fairy lights and leaf garlands splayed across the ceiling. Little bowls of coloured jewel stickers were scattered over a long table.

The children raced from bowl to bowl carefully selecting their chosen treasures before sprinting back to their crowns. They focused on their creations with such intent and pride. Even the adults were getting into the spirit and cheekily sticking jewels to their hands and face.

There was also the opportunity to join the charming prince and beautiful princess in the throne room for a complimentary professional photo.

The children then worked up their appetites for dessert with lots of bouncy laughs and giggles on the inflatable fairy tale castle. Others played chasey around the large manicured gardens.

Soon it was time for dessert and the tiered plates had been filled with choc-dipped profiteroles, jelly slice, mini pavlovas and glittery cupcakes. Just when you think you couldn’t fit in one more bite freshly baked scones were bought to the table accompanied with teacups of jam and cream! It was safe to say no one went home hungry!

With it almost being time to leave the enchanted castle, the magical characters did their final round of goodbyes with a few last snaps. The guests grabbed their belongings and the children made their way out for one last bounce on the inflatable fairy tale castle. They were overjoyed when the prince and princess suddenly reappeared and joined them for their final jumps.

Whilst initially wondering how a two-hour high tea event was going to unfold with such young attendees, in actual fact time flew by with ease! The ‘Once Upon a Fairy Tale’ High Tea was a perfectly balanced event for both child and parents alike.

The food was considered fabulously to cater for both child and adult and with activities such as crown creating, photos in the throne and bouncing on the inflatable fairy tale castle the children were well entertained whilst the parents were able to relax and chat amongst themselves.

Be sure to lock in your tickets to the next ‘Once Upon a Fairy Tale’ High Tea at Glanville Hall, Semaphore. You won’t be disappointed!
