Piccadilly Kitchen | Piccadilly | Review
In Autumn, the beautiful Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens are no secret to tourists and locals alike who flock here to view the stunning autumn colours and meander through the gorgeous gardens.
There is, however, a little local café which pops up on Piccadilly Rd every Friday from 8:30am until 4pm and Saturday from 9am – 4pm. Piccadilly Kitchen is known very well by locals but is gaining a reputation amongst visitors too.
Everybody is welcome here and made to feel welcome. The staff are singing, the windows are open and everyone from mums with toddlers to passing motorbike riders pop in to take advantage of the relaxed vibe and the fresh food which is all made in-house.
The café features an eclectic mix of rustic decor, with seating inside and out, so it’s very informal. The menu features seasonal home-made food which is simple, tasty and very fresh. The owners hail from South Africa which is reflected in the menu – bobotie quiche and South African milk tarts are always in demand.
I had a slice of vegetarian quiche, which I am pleased to say, featured a crisp, buttery pastry base and lots of flavour. It was accompanied by a very fresh side salad. For dessert, I shared a frangipane tart covered with raspberry coulis and cream. It was so special and delicious that I forgot to photograph it, which is a shame because it was gorgeous.
Locally roasted Moshico coffee and an exotic array of teas are on hand and the menu overall is very reasonably priced. Expect to pay $12 – $14 for a lunch main. Parking is available near the front of the cafe or just around the corner, opposite the oval.
So, if you are after a little café in the hills which is very child friendly and inexpensive and which serves wholesome food, made with love, you can find it here!
