Platform 1 Heritage Farm Railway – End of an Era for Adelaide Hills Farming Property | Closing 15 Oct 2017

End of an era for Adelaide Hills farming property Platform 1 Heritage Farm Railway

The end of the October 2017 School Holidays will also mark an end to popular Adelaide Hills tourist attraction, Platform 1 Heritage Farm Railway.

Platform 1, owned and operated by Glenn and Karen Liebelt of Littlehampton, has been “train lovers heaven” for families and railway enthusiasts for over 20 years.  Owner and Train Driver, Glenn says, “We are so proud to have created and run such a great attraction for children and adults alike to enjoy.”

Platform 1 is set up on a 70 acre farming property which has been in the Liebelt family for six generations.

“I believe it is our own family’s passion for railways and farming which has made Platform 1 so successful.”

Since opening in 1996, Platform 1 has received numerous awards for outstanding service in the tourism industry.

“The tourism industry has changed an enormous amount since we first opened, and to be able to evolve and grow over the years is thanks to a huge level of imagination, vision and passion.”  But, the time has come for Glenn and Karen to close Platform 1 and “hand the reins over” of the property to the next generation, and let them create their own dreams.

“25 years ago, my father and I had a dream to build a railway in my parent’s paddock,” says Glenn. “At the time, I could never have imagined it to grow into the extraordinary business it is today.  This was my dream, and we made it happen.”

Although Platform 1 will close mid-October, the property, along with the six generations of farming and railway history will stay in the family.  “We are finishing on such a high, and want to give families one last chance to come for a train ride through this beautiful farming property.”

It’s been a pleasure to work with Karen & Glenn at Platform 1 over the past few years and here at Play & Go we’re very sad to hear this news. We wish them all the best. Be sure to visit them one more time, and if you’ve never experienced this unique train and farm experience before, here’s your last chance. Don’t miss it!

Open 6 days a week from 10am (closed Wednesdays) and open 7 days a week during the school holidays.

Visitors have until Sunday 15th October 2017 to head up to the Hills for one last train ride at Platform 1.
