Royal Croquet Club | Adelaide Fringe Review

Royal Croquet Club – you can’t play croquet, but you can roller skate!

There is plenty for all ages to see and do at the Royal Croquet Club in 2018, located down on Pinky Flat (opposite Next Generation).  From fabulous family friendly shows such as 360 Allstars, A Simple Space and Circus Abyssinia: Ethiopian Dreams to getting your skates on and rolling around the Nova 919 Gliderolla Rink.

Positioned on the riverbank overlooking the Torrens, the skating rink is a fun addition to this year’s RCC.  It’s just $10 to hire roller skates or roller blades and have a go.  You can be a first timer (like Mr 10 here!) and parents are encouraged to join in too.  With Nova 919 tunes playing in the background, they also play games like limbo for an extra challenge.  Remember to bring socks, but if you forget they are $5 to buy.

Gliderolla Rink is open Wednesday to Sunday from 6pm until 11pm plus 12pm until 4pm on weekends.

The RCC has a fabulous selection of hot and cold food, drinks and sweets galore!  Lunch or dinner options include pizza from Pizzateca, chicken nuggets and chips from Motherload Nuggeteria, burger and fries from Burger Theory, dumplings from Humpty Dumpling and spaghetti bolognese from Mr Spaghetti.  Fairy floss on a stick from Sky Doodles was popular (for double the price they will make you a fairy floss animal!) as was 50SixOne and the Creperie Cart for dessert.  There is free water from most drink vans and bars too.

Entry to the RCC is free, so even if you’re not seeing a show you can still wander in and explore the numerous food vendors and stop for a drink and bite to eat.  Dogs are welcome too, but must be on a leash at all times (dogs not allowed in performance venues).  The RCC is pram friendly.

The RCC is a licensed venue so there are bar facilities scattered throughout.  There are lots of tables and bench seats and although it gets very busy pre-show and again when a show finishes, you should manage to find a spot to sit.  There is also plenty of shaded lawn area too.

The RCC is very family friendly during the day and we would recommend anyone taking young children to plan their visit before the sun goes down.  Anyone under 18 is to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and must exit the RCC by midnight. No minors can remain inside the RCC after midnight, regardless of seeing a show.

If you’re leaving after dark why not walk up King William Road and along North Terrace to take in the Parade of Light and Night Markets!
