SCINEMA @ The Science Exchange

If you love film and are interested in science go along to the SCINEMA @ The Science Exchange event.

On Saturday 24 August, six films will be screened at The Science Exchange across four sessions straight from this year’s SCINEMA International Science Film Festival in support of National Science Week. A dedicated kids session features films to delight the inner child in everyone.

There will also be a special Q&A with shark expert, Dr Charlie Huveneers from Flinders University after exploring the underwater lives of 700 deadly sharks.

This is a FREE event, however a gold coin donation will help the team to continue to deliver amazing science experiences for everyone to enjoy.

Films & Session Times:

Kids Session | 10:30 -11:40 am (snack and drinks available)

  • Learn the fascinating story of a one-in-a-million snail whose shell coiled to the left rather than to the right in Jeremy the Lefty Snail.
  • Have you ever wondered how high must you climb to be “in space”? Find out in Where does Space Begin?
  • Discover more about the lives of the ocean’s most majestic giants in Whale Wisdom.

Sustainable Nation | 1 pm

In a world where water is everything, this film follows three individuals who are doing their part to bring sustainable water solutions to an increasingly thirsty planet. Bar facilities available at this session.

Vitamania | 2:30 pm

Almost one billion people take a regular dietary supplements, mainly vitamin tablets, but how safe are these products, how are the regulated, and how can we make the right choices for our health? Bar facilities available at this session.

700 Sharks + Q&A with Dr Charlie Huveneers | 4:30 pm

In a ground breaking experiment, five of the world’s most experienced underwater scientists dive among 700 starving sharks. Find out about the science behind the film and what it takes to research the one of the world’s deadliest animals. Bar facilities available at this session.
