Sofitel Nusa Dua Bali – Great Value Scoopon Deal for Families

In the January 2018 school holidays our trip to Bali included a stay at the beautiful Sofitel Nusa Dua. It’s a great resort for families and has probably the best food out of several places we have stayed at. The breakfast buffet has one of the largest selections and the restaurants were consistently yummy. Plus their extravagant Sunday Brunch is well known amongst foodies as being one of the best around.

We’re a bit excited that Scoopon currently have a fabulous deal which is fantastic value for families (if you have up to 2 kids 8 years & under). We didn’t go on this deal but if we had kids this age we’d be snapping it up as we paid a lot more, for much fewer inclusions, during our stay. This deal includes breakfast AND dinner every day, including drinks (wine, beer & soft drinks!), massages, Kids Club for up to 4 hours per day and airport transfers. All for $249 per night per family (not including airfares).

If you’re thinking of going to Bali and have never used a Scoopon deal thinking it might be unreliable I can tell you it’s not. We have used them, many of our friends have too and they are truly the best value way to go on a luxury resort holiday. It really is a huge saving compared to booking accommodation and then paying for these inclusions separately. Scroll down further to see our Review and all our pics from our stay at the Sofitel Nusa Dua.

Here is the deal from Scoopon:

Experience unparalleled 5-star luxury at the upscale Sofitel Nusa Dua – with two daily meals, free-flowing drinks during dinner, pampering, and more! Stay 8 nights with the family from $1,998 for 8 nights or $2,499 for 10 nights.
Escape to a Luxury Room at one of Bali’s top hotel brands. Sprawling landscaped gardens, a huge lagoon pool, top day spa and world-class facilities await you; the package, too, features decadences you won’t believe: daily breakfast, nightly dinner, free-flowing drinks during dinner, pampering for two adults, kids’ club access, and return airport transfers! INCREDIBLE luxury for less – travel available now until 31 August 2019. Book a stay for 2 adults and up to 2 kids 8 & under (when sharing existing bedding).

Make sure you read all the fine print in the Scoopon deal and if you’re not sure, go spend an hour (or three) and read all the Trip Advisor reviews to see if this is the right place for your family.

The Sofitel Nusa Dua is a tropical paradise – it’s about 5 years old, so it’s very modern and pretty new still, but the grounds are an established tropical garden and the resort has a high level of service with good experience behind them. You know this place is well run when just one morning they catered for 600 guests during breakfast from a large conference early in the morning to other regular guests later on. Having our breakfast at around 9.30am we would not have realised they had already fed hundreds of people already (if one of the staff hadn’t told us) – everything was well stocked and fresh.

There was also a large wedding one evening with distinguished guests – we know this as there were police escorts delivering some of them, a large welcome party of resort staff greeting them and a local celebrity as emcee caused much excitement amongst people who knew him. We took a sneak peek at the wedding from the beach (after the dignitaries and their security personnel had left) and it looked pretty spectacular. This place obviously knows what they’re doing.

For families with little kids, the family water play area includes this waterslide above and water fountains below in these shallow splash pools.

This area is right behind the kids club rooms which offers many daily activities for kids.

One of the activities offered during our stay was mermaid swimming. Miss 12 enjoyed trying out the mermaid swim fins. Some activities like this incur an additional fee.

Our whole family had a go at archery one morning. Sometimes activities like this is included for free on their daily activities timetable, at other times there is a cost. I enjoyed free morning yoga in the glass house overlooking the beach and there are water aerobics classes, water sports and other fun things to do if you want to participate.

Otherwise you can just relax by the pool or at the beach. The great thing about the beaches at Nusa Dua is that they are not open to the public so they are quiet with no hawkers trying to sell you things. We are so spoilt in South Australia with our beautiful beaches, clean white sand and clear waters. Unfortunately the beaches here are not quite at the same level. While we like to see the beach, walk along it, relax under shade and have a play, we tend to swim in the pool.

We stayed in a Prestige Suite while at the Sofitel (because we have a 12 year old they only allow an extra rollaway bed in one of these bigger suites).

The bathroom in these suites is bigger than some living rooms but still they could not fit the huge bath tub there, so instead it’s in the corner of the bedroom.

Mr 9 was delighted to be able to have a huge bubble bath and be able to watch a movie at the same time!

Our balcony was large with a sofa and chair and overlooked the tropical gardens.

One of the main reasons you would want to stay at the Sofitel is the quality of the food. The breakfast buffet is probably the largest we’ve seen and is spread out over several rooms, so make sure you wander around so you don’t miss anything. There is a room with different hot foods including Asian offerings, yum cha, eggs cooked how you like; a room for fresh salads; a bread and patisserie room (the fresh bread rolls are delicious).

One of our favourite rooms is the noodle bar. Here you pick the type of noodles you like and ingredients and put them into a bowl; hand them over to the chef and they will be cooked for you. You can either have the noodles in a clear chicken broth or laksa, or they can be wok-tossed and fried in a sauce. Be sure to try them done in all the different ways.

The fresh juice bar is great. You can either try one of their juice mixes (they change all the time) or you can put your own selection of fruits and vegetables in a basket and they will juice it for you.

I mentioned earlier about the Sofitel’s very popular Sunday Brunch, which is in their Cucina restaurant. If you are staying at the resort on a Sunday make sure you book in for this (do it early as it gets booked out – people from all over Nusa Dua or Bali come especially for it). We happened to be here close to Australia Day so the brunch was done with an Australian theme. See our pics below for some of the food stations at the brunch.

Food selections included seafood, roast meats, Asian style hot foods and sashimi to name some of them.

Desserts included a donut station with toppings, a chocolate fountain and assorted cakes and sweets.

The Scoopon deal includes dinner at all the restaurants. Sometimes deals like this, which include meals are not the best if the restaurants don’t have great food, but we had great meals here so it’s great value that they are included in your package. We paid for our meals so can say that you are easily saving at least $80 to $100 per meal per family, especially as they include wine, beer and soft drinks!

The Toya Beach Grill restaurant, on the beach, was also fabulous and included in the deal. Be sure to order the satays as they come out on your own little coal grill so the meat is smokey and char grilled. Mr 9 thought it was the best.

The resort would also be pretty fabulous for people without children. The pools below are quite separate from the family water play area. With sun lounges in this area, swim up bar and tables with seats submerged in the water, and there are rooms with your own private pool, you can totally have a great time. You will have to put up with all the families at breakfast time but eat early or later to avoid the onslaught.

Sadly the resort does not have a big waterslide (which my kids love) but we spent our time doing a few of the activities, relaxing by the pool, swimming and of course eating. It’s literally 5 minutes down the road from Bali Collection (there’s a free shuttle bus or it’s only a few dollars in a taxi). There you can get cheap massages, cheap nail art, get your hair done, visit Starbucks and shop.

Just a short walk from the Sofitel (in the street parallel – turn right at the main road and walk around to it) there are a few laundromats. Get all your clothes cleaned and ironed for less than $15 for a few bags of clothes (it’s priced per kg). It will save you from going home to a mountain of dirty clothes.

If you’ve never done a Scoopon deal and am nervous about buying one without knowing if your dates are available, just give the resort a call and check availability. This is what I usually do. That way you can buy with confidence and book your flights without worrying. This is a huge resort with many rooms so unless they have a really big conference on, most of the time they would be likely to have rooms available. You have 7 days (and no less than 14 days til your check-in date) where you can cancel and get a full refund if you change your mind with the Scoopon deal. Remember to read the fine print and you can always chat to a Scoopon consultant or email them to ask questions.

If you have kids 12 years & under there is currently the same travel deal for Grand Hyatt Bali on Luxury Escapes which we did on our last trip. My kids think it has the best waterslide – it’s 50 metres and built around a hill, rather than up high off the ground. The advantage of this is that you can’t fly off at a great height – therefore they allow you to go down the slide with an inflatable tube so you can go faster. The lagoon pools are amazing here and they have several huge pools, including a cold plunge pool right next to a hot spa pool (sorry to that man wanting to relax in the spa while all the kids jumped from cold to hot for fun). Read our review of the Grand Hyatt Bali here.

We do not earn any affiliate for Luxury Escapes – just sharing because we’ve done the deal before and it might help you with your Bali holiday research.

Thanks for the detailed review and pics!

We bought this deal late last year and are heading off tomorrow… pity about the high season surcharges (+$90 per day), I think it’s still a pretty good deal though…
