There are venues all over Adelaide that offer vacation care programs, workshops, clinics, classes and activities for the kids, plus there are plenty of fun things to do together as a family.
Below you will find a list of venues and links to their websites so you can simply click through to check out the activities on offer. Most programs are open to school age children 5 years and older but there are some specifically for younger kids. Remember to book in early if your child is interested in participating as classes fill quickly.

Australian Sports Camps

The City of Charles Sturt are inviting all children aged 3 – 17 years to try a new sport and get involved in their FREE School Holiday Sports Program.
The program will be held during the Spring school holidays from 2 to 13 October 2017.

Hockey SA is pleased to offer School Holiday Clinics for boys and girls aged 6-18 these School Holidays from October 11-12.
Beginners through to experienced players are welcome, with children grouped by age/skill level. Each field player session is tailored to be a fun and interactive experience for all involved.
Go and experience an Olympic sport and have a fun-filled day with coaching from current SA Hotshots and SA Suns state players, state coaches and SASI athletes and coaches. All participants must have their own mouth guard, which can be purchased from any specialty retailer.

At the Animal Farm Goolwa, from 10am to 4pm every day throughout the school holidays, you can feed the goats, lambs, chooks, emus and lots of other animals.
Children can interact with small animals in the barn and meet the rescue joeys, visit the newly hatched babies including emu babies, look in on the mini-pigs, have a chat with their cocky and galahs, feed the donkeys or sheep in their paddocks. Take a free trailer ride too! The ever popular pony rides will also be available every day, subject to the weather, (be sure to book on arrival).

Spring School Holiday ART Workshops
Join Little Picassos this Spring break for a selection of wonderful holiday classes in a studio setting that provides an inspirational and motivational Art space for children. Two studio locations, Glenelg and Hyde Park.
Little Picasso’s Art programs have something for everyone, classes with accompanying adults from 2 years, Drop and Go sessions from 4.5 years for 1, 2 or 3 hours and half and full day experiences in a variety of mediums including: drawing painting, printmaking, sculpture, clay, textiles and construction. The School of Languages holiday program, Languages Alive! is back for 2017 and this year will be held over three days in two locations!
Primary-aged students can join them on 3 & 4 October at the School of Languages in West Croydon or on 5 October at Nairne School in Nairne to discover a new language and culture.
Children will choose from 8 different hands-on workshops where they can make a Carnevale mask, create a Chinese watercolour, learn to dance Bollywood style, play a traditional Korean drum, take a virtual tour around China and more.
In addition, they will come away with the basics of up to four different languages including Korean, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, and Japanese.

School Holiday Activity: Rotting Girls and Revolting Boys
This one-hour activity will explore the lives of a few of the ‘revolting girls’ who passed through the Destitute Asylum at the Migration Museum site in the mid-1800s and the ‘rotting boys’ who lived on the ageing vessel the hulk Fitzjames between 1880 and 1891. Go in, dress up, line up, and fess up to your crimes. Have fun working through the choices that you made and your eventual destination. Working through five different stations, explore what life was like for these children.

Treasure Island: the other side of the story
Treasure Island: the other side of the story gives us a glimpse into some of the things that can go wrong while sailing in search of adventure.
What was it like grappling with pirates? What happened when your rations ran out or the wind failed to blow? How did you cope if your clothes were washed overboard and all you had left were your pyjamas?
Follow Captain Pedro Pyjama and his crew on their adventure to almost discover some of the world’s greatest treasures. They never quite make it to where they are going, or if they do, always seem to be the last to arrive. Come dressed in your pyjamas and you might join Captain Pedro’s crew!

Adelaide Gaol Kid’s Trick or Treat Trail for Halloween
Ghosts and goblins, spooks galore and scary witches at your door…….There will be food, drink and witch’s brew, now all they need is you!
Join the Adelaide Gaol’s annual Trick or Treat Trail on Sunday 29 October! Within the spooky walls of the Old Gaol there will be much to see and do on their Trick or Treat Trail.

Animal Capers in the Jungle
Animal Capers will be introducing us to their wide range of furry, feathered and scaly friends. Last time, children got to meet and handle sugar gliders, a barn owl, a frog and even a crocodile if they chose. More animals this time as they will change with the seasons. Nature Play Festival
The annual Nature Play Festival is back for the SA Spring school holidays!
More than 100 events are on offer across the state from 1 – 15 October, with activities including cubby building, nature arts, outdoor playgroups, loose parts play, weaving and whittling, adventure challenges and much more.
The Nature Play Festival is coordinated by Nature Play SA in collaboration with over 30 wonderful organisations and is proudly supported by Flinders University.

Stamford Grand Spring Carnival featuring Magic Mike the Magician
Stamford Grand Adelaide’s Grand Ballroom will be transformed into a Spring Carnival in this family friendly event featuring a magic show by Adelaide’s most famous kids party magician Magic Mike!

Performing Arts Program for 8–16 year olds October School Holiday Program
Are you a budding singer, actor or dancer (or know someone who is)? Adelaide Festival Centre is offering a series of performing arts workshops and masterclasses for children aged 8 – 16 in the October 2017 School Holidays. Featuring dance, theatre, vocal and musical theatre, students will be nurtured by talented South Australian educators in each field to develop confidence, communication and leadership skills.
One-day workshops as well as two and three-day masterclasses are available, with groups separated by age: 8–11 years and 12–16 years.
No auditions are required however previous experience is preferred for masterclasses. First in, best dressed, so be quick as these programs sell out very quickly.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn vital skills in the performing arts – while having an enormous amount of fun!

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek….
One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task – if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn’t be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.
Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

Theatre Bugs Junior Holiday Programs

Windmill Theatre Company – Big Bad Wolf
He’s the most misunderstood character in fairytale history. Put simply he has no friends. But then he does have incredibly sharp teeth, yellow eyes and his own ideas about personal hygiene, and he is the infamous Big Bad Wolf after all. No one likes him. Luckily one girl is brave enough to double check this wolf’s bad press and an unlikely friendship is born.
This hilarious, table-turning tale will have you wondering why you were so scared in the first place.
