START at the Gallery

START at the Gallery offers an exciting introduction to visual art for children and families. Held on the first Sunday of every month, START is free and includes art activities, tours, live performance and entertainment.

Each monthly event is themed around current exhibitions or the general collection.

START is recommended for children aged 3-12 years and parent/carer supervision is required. No bookings are necessary.

Mix it up

Mad March is only just beginning, and it’s time to mix it up! Get messy, get bold, get experimental with Start at the Gallery. Enjoy kids tours, live performances and hands-on art activities – all inspired by the thick paint, warped forms and lurid colours of acclaimed contemporary painter Ben Quilty. A mixed-up melting pot of art and ideas for the whole family!

Sunday 7 April 2019 | 11am – 3pm

Ways of Seeing

There are so many diverse ways to see, to sense, to think and feel and perceive. Art can help us look at the world differently. The Gallery has acquired some exciting new works and wants everyone to help them celebrate new energy and new ideas. Shift your viewpoint, try an unfamiliar approach and tune in with a fresh perspective.

Enjoy live music, hands-on art workshops, storytelling, audio-described and Auslan-interpreted tours as well as mesmerising magic and artful illusion performed by Mickster the Trickster.
