START at the Gallery

The Art Gallery of South Australia offers an exciting introduction to visual art for children and families through START at the Gallery. Held on the first Sunday of every month, the free START program includes art activities, tours, trails, live music and entertainment.
Suitable for ages 5-10 years (with parent/carer supervision required).
Cost is free (no bookings required).

START at the Gallery: House of Cards | Sunday 4 May 2014
Tread lightly families; there is a house of cards in the Art Gallery. Join the START team as we introduce you to the work of Dark Heart artist Tony Albert and help you cut, fold and shape your own house of cards in response.
Children’s tours | 11am, 11.30am, 12 noon, 12.30pm, 1pm, 1.30pm & 2pm
Join the Guides for a special look at the work of Dark Heart artist Tony Albert in the 2014 Adelaide Biennial exhibition.
Location: Meet in the Santos Atrium
Collaborative Card Metropolis! | 11am – 3pm
Fold and shape your own house of cards out of real playing cards! Add your creation to our growing metropolis and then make another to take home.
Location: Radford Auditorium
Imagination Playground | 11am – 3pm
Get involved and use your imagination to build houses, factories, shops and galleries out of giant soft building blocks. Let’s create a child size city, knock it down and start again!
Location: Sculpture Courtyard
Soundscapes | 2pm – 3pm
Move to some swinging cool tunes while you have your afternoon tea on the grass.
Coming up……Lace It Up, Sunday 1 June 2014
Children will be lacing up this START day looking at the bobbin and needle lace work on display. Join the START Team as we let you loose weaving and looping your own threaded patterns.
This month is also your first chance to make a work of art for the START Art Prize. Make a work with as much detail as you can and leave it with the START Team. Entries will be on display at the August START day.
