Summer Holidays in Adelaide! Find all the Best Activities & Ideas for the December/January School Holidays.

Below you will find a list of venues and links to their websites so you can simply click through to check out the activities on offer. Most programs are open to school age children 5 years and older. Remember to book in early if your child is interested in participating as classes fill quickly.

Academy of Interactive Entertainment

Minecraft Movie Maker {8 to 14 yrs} (All students must have a PC Minecraft profile) Learn how to storyboard, capture, and edit your own Minecraft videos in the style of your favourite YouTubers. You will learn the fundamentals associated with the planning of a story or tutorial which you will capture from Minecraft and then edit to make the final movie. After completing this course you will be able to continue the movie making process when you get home by downloading the free software.

Code Camp {11 to 14 yrs} introduces students to the programming needed to make a game. Students will write code in the C# programming language and use the Unity game engine to create a 3D game. After learning the basic concepts of programming, students will have the opportunity to customise their game to make it their own, and at the end of the camp, each student will get to show off what they’ve created to family and friends. Previous experience: Participants should be familiar with how to use a PC computer and a mouse.

Both camps cost $350 and will run across the January School Holidays on Tuesday 17, Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 January 2017. Courses run from 9am to 3pm at Level 3, 32 Grenfell St, Adelaide.




Adelaide Planetarium School Holiday Activities

Calling all star-gazers and junior astronauts, come and take a tour of the solar system these school holidays!

Venture to the Adelaide Planetarium, a theatre with a domed-shaped ceiling and a star projector to realistically show the position of constellations, stars and planets. You can almost feel the earth turn as the projector rotates to simulate the motion of the earth’s rotation during the course of the night. One of the Planetarium’s experienced educators will guide you through the solar system before you experience one of our full dome movies. Sessions run from 9- 24 January 2017 | Tickets $8 each | Bookings are essential.

Carclew’s Explore Arts School Holiday Workshops

Carclew’s school holiday workshop program offers full day and half day creative activities for kids aged 5 – 17 years in their stunning North Adelaide venue.
Their team of professional artists present a broad range of inspiring, hands-on experiences that will nurture your child’s inner-artist and allow them to try out new experiences and make new friends.

Carclew’s Summer program includes a whole new bunch of workshop topics which will entertain Explore Arts veterans and those trying for the first time, including a special 3-day intensive workshop Children’s Voices, cartooning, photography, fashion illustration, printmaking, magic tricks, iPad drawing, Ngarrindjeri storytelling and more.

Migration Museum

School Holidays at the Migration Museum Saturday 17 December 2016 to Sunday 29 January 2017.

Where are we from? Explore the Migration Museum and help build a giant interactive map that traces where we are from. Whether your family are recent arrivals, have been here for generations, or have always called this continent home, take the time to share a snippet of your family’s story with other visitors – and take your own map home.

10am to 5pm Weekends: 1pm to 5 pm. Closed Christmas day. Free. Migration Museum, Kintore Ave, Adelaide.




National Motor Museum

Visit the National Motor Museum during the Summer school holidays from Saturday 17 December 2016 to Sunday 29 January 2017 to explore over 400 vehicles including the ‘Big Foot’ from the Mad Max films. All children will receive a free souvenir, the Wheelie Good Activity Book which contains a range of entertaining and informative activities that young visitors can explore while at the Museum.

Kids can also can interact with the video gaming machines in the Retro Gaming Lounge (includes the bespoke Virtual Reality racing game based on the 1980s Adelaide Grand Prix). The extensive grounds of the Museum have barbecue areas and are ideal for large or small families and groups to get together.

Sciworld School Holiday Activities 

Come and see Sciworld’s ‘Fire and Ice’ show, explore the solar system in a stardome, learn something new in one of their workshops – Robotics, Palaeontology, Illusions or Rocket Science. Explore the hands on interactive exhibits. Three hours of fun for only $15 per child (ages 5 – 16) with accompanying parents absolutely free!

South Australian Maritime Museum

South Australian Maritime Musuem January School Holiday program Wednesday 4 to Wednesday 25 January 2017.

Captain Clancy and the Ghost Ship: When Clancy is given a real-life sailing ship by her grandfather she thinks it’s the worst thing in the world… that is until she finds out the ship is HAUNTED! Join Clancy on her adventure to uncover old family secrets and find out just what is in the magical box! Explore the Museum, watch the performance and climb the lighthouse!

Performances at 11am and 1pm. $6. SA Maritime Museum, Port Adelaide.
